Been wanting to get this idea into the physical world for awhile now.

This bowie blade has straight lines outside but, a twisted heart. The blade is 8 1/2" forged from 52100/HC ball-bearing damascus. The guard is a faceted design done in 1018 carbon steel with an antiqued finish. The handle is A-grade Cocobola wood, also faceted with a black spacer behind the guard and a stainless steel pin. The knife comes with a fully tooled leather blade sheath. 13 1/2" total length.

That is art in my opinion. Awesome reality you created there!

very very nice. Nice lines on the handle and the guard. did you have to etch the blade to get that pattern to come out?

Okay, file this under "I'm not affaid to display my ignorance" :o - are two different types of ball-bearing steel used? I get 52100, but not "HC". The effect is really beautiful.

Hey Roger,
Yes and sorry for the delayed response. I got my last batch of ball-bearings from Enco and the gent I spoke with told me he had BB in 52100 and other high carbon steel ones but, wasn't exactly sure what the others were. I went ahead and tried them anyway. I used to use 52100 BB and 1084 powder but, I wanted to try something different. So I mixed the BB (52100 and others) with about 65-75% being 52100 and no powder at all. I've done several blades this way, I haven't had a soft spot yet and the whole blade cuts very well. I hope that helped.

Thanks J. - and once again, great piece. Really an attractive and unique look.
