Hello all,

I bought a Twitch 2 about 5 months ago so at this point i think it would be a good time to write a review.

The model i have is the all black one (TiNi coating on the blade).

Blade- the blade itself is extremely sharp (at least in my experience) especially for a factory edge. In fact i accidentally nicked myself and didnt even realize i had done so until after i saw my finger bleeding. My friend had not really ever used a spring assist and when he was trying it out accidentally dropped it and also ended up cutting him self very bad with just the knife's weight hitting his finger. maybe not the best way to show the sharpness of the blade but i think it gives a realistic comparison especially since all of us make stupid mistakes and do cut ourselves every once in a while.

I use the knife pretty lightly but i do EDC it and it seems to hold up decently well except for the very tip top end of the tip, which has gotten slightly knocked down with out me knowing what i did (this can only be seen if i literally hold the knife a few inches from my eyes and the performance of the piercing ability has not been noticeably effected

--lock up- there is a tinny bit of play when the blade is locked up but it is not noticed when i use it and in the price range i do not feel i can expect a 100 % perfect lock up and personally i would rather have that tiny bit of play than not have the blade lock up.

-- Blade coating- the coating seems pretty sturdy but it seems to love to attract adhesive off tape when used to open packages and seems to appear scuffed after cutting cardboard. all of this is easily removed with rubbing alcohol so i assume the coating just seems to grab particles. the coating has seemed to come off of the the inside part of the groves on the "kick", cosmetic issue not performance and even on a cosmetic level it is a very minimal issue.

Spring Assist- the issue of it opening in a pocket is not even a thought to me and left my mind about 5 mins after i opened the box. the spring assist does take some getting used to on how to get it to open correctly but i would much rather have that than it popping open to easily. only real issue is that if the knife is held in a more tip up position the blade may not fully lock up but if you are going to use it quickly and touch anything with the blade it locks up right away. again this IMHO is not a negative at all because it just shows how stiff it truly is to get the blade to deploy (and again for me a positive). the lock that prevents the blade from deploying is a great feature but i have no reason to use it and find it very hard to unlock if i only have one hand to open the knife.

Lock- very good lock, this is the first back lock knife i have owned and at first i did not like it much but now i prefer it because, while it it more work to close the blade i think it is safer for me.

Thumb stud- pointless, you cannot open it by the stud, at least easily and safely

belt clip- perfect, it is reversible but if you are right handed and draw with your right it positions the knife perfectly, it also provides a good grip since the knife sides are rather smooth.

over all size and fee- it has a nice feel but it is a very small knife, i am only 5'7" and have normal size hands (i wear a large glove, and my hand with just below my fingers is about 3.5 inches wide). the handle really only fits 3 fingers around it but it is still comfortable.

other- there is a lanyard hole which i have not used but it i were to use the knife for sports/hunting/ etc it would be a great feature.

over all it is a great little knife i would recommend it to any one that needs a small sharp knife especially one that they want to be able to carry with out flaunting the fact they are carrying.

i hope this review was helpful and i will try to answer any questions people have about the knife. feedback is appreciated

Nice review!
I have had a Twitch II for about a year, and find it to be an excellent little knife.
I like carrying it because it is so discreet, yet accomplishes all the jobs expected of it very well.

I agree with you that the thumb studs are a little hard to use, but I believe their main purpose it to act as a blade stop, when the blade is closed. To prevent the blades edge from contacting the back spacer when the knife is closed.
I'm also pretty sure that the pocket clip isn't reversible. I guess you could reverse it, but due to its shape, part of the clip would hang over the edge of the knife.

the clip is reversible like side to side i mean, the knife will always be clipped into the same position but you can change teh side the clip is on. i might not have worded that well.

after i looked at my knife again i do see the purpose of the stud, i had noticed before it was resting on the grip but i did not think about why it was like that

I love my twitch II. I, however, always use the thumb stud. I find that I have to switch my grip to use the lever. I can flick the thumb stud and it leaves me right in cutting grip. Great little knife. It's my main carry due to being under 3.5", slim, sharp, and all metal.

how do you push on the thumb stud, because i cannot find a position that is even some what easy, maybe im doing it totally wrong

SR matt, great review........thanks.

Try placing "middle finger" in elongated slot on clip, this helps hold the knife secure for using either stud or flipper.

Robbie Roberson. ;)

Matt, a friend of mine just got a twitchII and I cannot use the thumbstuds either. I also can't use the thumbstuds on my buck rush. Only reason I can think of is because my hands are really big. I just cant use thumbstuds on such small knives because of my big hands (im 6'5" and XL gloves are very snug for my hands.)

that is how i use the kick but i just cant get the leverage to use the stud

Do you have big hands? That could be why since the Twitch 2 is pretty small but the size makes it really easy to carry. I love the Twitch 2, not only is it the perfect size for me but I find the looks very appealing too.

Chris, I've got a question. In Australia, some shops sell the Twitch in an unassisted version. I was wondering if the shops are removing the springs themselves to make it more legal or does SOG send unassisted versions to certain countries?

Yes, Apparently there are legal issues and the assisted knives we send to Australia have to have the spring removed. Because it is a legal issue we have to do it before the knives are imported into Australia.
