Hi all, I've been peeping around here recently after polishing and restoring my dads collectiong of old knives (Parker, premiere, western, case, ect...) and I came across the SOG's knives and this forum
well a twitch II fell into my lap and I said bye bye to the old folders for the new cool stuff
Twitch II first impresions:
a little weak but aceptible for a slim ECD, nice and sharp, but I still went straight to stromping the edge, now its silly sharp ( had to buy a new box of bandaids)
there was wiggle between the bolster and blade, they slightly over ground the flat grind on the right side of the blade, leaving a mark, wich i think should not have passed quality control, but I guess the knife is not expensive enough to scrap a blade for a slight inacurracy, there is also a little wiggle up and down in the locked open position, i can live with that.
OK I love this knife... its awesome, if SOG could get the precision tolorences higher, i would gladly pay $50 more, the ergonomics are great and the SAT system is wonderfull altho the spring is too weak, I had to go to home Harware to get a stronger spring and tweek a little more tention to get the bolster screw tight enough to eliminate wiggle completely, now the knife felt sturdy but it would not open fully on its own without a flick assist so i dismantled it and water sanded the bolster area with some 2000 grit wet sanding paper...it opened a little more, added some light oil... it opened a little more again(keep in ming the bolter screw is very tight at this point, no sideways wiggle at all just flex due to the slim design).
ok here is where I finaly got the knife to open easily with the very tight bolster, I removed the blade and smeared a little Phil Wood waterproof bearing grease (the green stuff that you can get in most bycicle shops) on both sides of the blades bolster area...I garantee you can get another half turn tighter on the bolster scew with that stuff and your twitch will still open.
Anyhow great knife for the price WTG SOG...I'm twitching to get my hands on the XL in the near future
