This knife is a sleeper. I've had mine for years and love it but you don't hear much about this great knife. Why not? What is yall's opinion on it.

I really like the it's design and the materials used as well as the fact that it is US made however fit is as lousy as it gets, zero precision, tightening the pivot to try to remove side to side blade play will just jam the AO mechanism long before the blade gets fixed.

One thing I would change is the blade stop pin it's tiny as hell the dam frame has plenty of room to spare for a decent sized stop pin.

Good materials, good design, messed up by way sloppy tolerances.

Did I mention due to the above it's not worth it's going price.
That is my opinion.

SOG Fix The Dam Thing

In fact the blade pivot screw is tiny also as well as other pins on this thing. Too bad.

SOG Fix The Dam Thing

Just how many have you broken due to that "little" blade stop? Not to argue but I suspect none. That being said It seems to me that the "dam thing" doesn't need fixin'. I have heard of no problems with the blade pin either. There are plenty of them out there so I think this would have been a known and rectified problem by now if indead it was a problem. I think not. My blade is tight and swings open with no issues. Maybe you just got a lemon. Try to tighten the blade pin / screw in little increments at a time to get that "just right" sweet spot to remove blade play. It worked for me and my brother. I hope to not come across as condescending; that is not my intention . Just expressing another opinion. Best

This was one of my first folders I got a few years back. I like it, but it's a little loose in the fit department compared to my Spydercos/BM/Kershaws. Overall it's a cool knife though I think their multi tools are a step above their edc knives.

Out of interest to this post, I took my twitch XL back out of the box for the first time since I prematurely "retired" it a year or so back, out of disappointment. I carried it with me today and and tried adjusting the pivot screw again to help clean up the sloppyness of the blade. I don't know if it is just in the design or what, but it has way to much blade play and flex. No matter how much I want to like this knife( it has held a sharp edge) it's going back in mothball status for me.

Love mine. Carry it as often as I'm able to.
It's the best slicer I have, and very nice to carry.

Super slicer, mine has zero blade play and locks up like a vault. No problems at all. Mine is recent production for what its worth. My Twitch II is the same way, very nice knife. I guess they make some dogs, but I haven't found one yet.

I found out today from Chris at SOG that my Twitch II that has FRN handles with metal liners is an exclusive they do for Lowes. I've been trying to find out for months where this knife came from as I haven't seen another one like it on the forums or fleabay. Thanks Chis  I forgot to ask if they make a Twitch XL like this.

Nope, not available on the XL, the only one with the FRN handles is the Twitch II for Lowe's.

Chris, you seem to be a good person to give an opinion on the twitch xl. How ya like it? Tell me some stuff about this sucker. Also do the springs that open the blade hold up well w/o breakage? How easy is a replacement to get in the off chance it breaks and how much do they cost? Thanks in advance.

I know Chris will answer, but just my two cents worth, I've opened mine a lot since I got it and it locks up like it always did, rock solid. That stop pin is not big, but must be heat treated well, as I see no deforming, flattening ect. on mine and its been opened a lot with the flipper, I don't baby it on opening. The assist on the Twitch series eliminates the half opening you sometimes get with non-powered flipper knives if you don't hit the flipper just right. I just got a Skyline, and it seems to be a great knife, but I still prefer the Twitch system as it always works on opening and its a stronger lock up than my Skyline is. Of course the Skyline was designed to be super light, so you give up a little to achieve that.

I like the knife. It is not one that i carry but it si a great knife. It is thin but still easy to handle.

I have not heard of or seen many problems with this knife. Most of them come from misuse not just opening the knife. Occasionally we will get a spring the brakes but that is very infrequently. If a spring does brake it is usually covered under warranty and you would just have to send the knife but to us.

You should not be causing and problems by using the knife. I have yet to see a SOG that had been damaged by opening it too frequently.

As for the stop pin, no problems there.

Overall I think it is a great knife and one of my top 5.

I have both XL (Black handle) and II (Silver handle) and yes, there is a bit of play to get good AO but it's not a huge deal breaker for me.

Lockup is solid on both and both are pretty dang sharp!

Well I just sent Chris@SOG an e mail about how best to send my twitch back to SOG for repairs to fix the loose blade play. After hearing from some of you stating that your knives were fine, I want to get mine fixed because it would be a shame not to be able to EDC this knife again.

I've had my XL for about 3 years, maybe a little more, now. I love it. I've taken it apart a couple times for a good cleaning - getting that spring end to stay in it's detent/hole can be a bitch while re-assembly is attemted, but once you get it right, it fires as good as new - so far anyways.

Bought mine at a gun/knife show so I was able to examine it before purchase. Blade is centered, lock up is solid, pivot screw works good for adjusting the tension of actuation. LOVE the aluminum handles - Thinking of "pimping" them in some way. Anyone have any experience with anodized/coated aluminum??? Lemme know if ya do, please.

All in all mine has been a great knife for both hard and mundane little tasks. I think it's classy, too! Blade shape makes for a wicked slicer as well - mine has seen alot of kitchen use.

I do like mine.
It has a little play but I don't care much about that in any kind of auto.
Doesn't get worst either, so no worries.
