Blem one is a Durba made 15 inch 22 oz. Ang Khola. There's a tiny fold line up near the tip that is hard to see unless you hold the knife to the light just right -- but it's there. Outside this the knife is the usual Durba 10/10 effort. Good karda and chakma.

Scabbard is new leather but no tooling. Frog is standard 100 year HI superfrog.

We'll take $50 off for this minor cosmetic flaw and deliver this knife to your door for $75. Call or email if interested.

Blem two is a perfect 15 inch 21 oz. Ang Khola by old faithful, Kesar. Good karda and chakma. The problem with this rig is the scabbard. Somehow a piece of the wood on the spine side got knocked out and there's a "soft spot" maybe 1.5 inches long about 6 inches up from the tip. I think a guy could use a straw and dribble some epoxy into the soft spot and it's fixed. Or, you can leave it as is but will have to be careful when placing the knife back into the scabbard so you don't send the tip thru the soft spot. Scabbard is new leather with tooling and excellently done -- except for this minor flaw. You can't see it but it's there.

We'll again take $50 off regular price and deliver this very nice rig to your door for $75.

Call or email if interested.

If you want pix I'll try to take a couple but don't ask unless you REALLY have to see the product. Posting pix has turned into a nightmare.

Hi Uncle Bill, I just bought a 15 inch AK from Terry. I would buy one of these also if they are thick and have a thick point on them. What are the specs? Like ya said befor a picture is worth 1000 words and I always liked to look at picture books befor I read a novel!!:D :p

Blem 2 with soft spot scabbard is gone.

Blem 1 remains -- nice horn handle. Both these knives were a couple of ounces shy of 1.5 pounds -- not the beefy variety.

Shucks...

If it were a wood handle, I'd jump all over it. I've wanted both an AK and a Durba for a while now... but really prefer wood over horn... oh well, I can wait. :)

BTW... there have been a few UBDOTDs with folds lately... that is just a cosmetic flaw isn't it?? Something that didn't get quite polished out in the finishing process...

Not that it matters much with the excellent warranty and all. I'm just curious today :)

Ah it's very tempting, but I think I'll pass right now (saving my money for the HI hanshee ;) ).

Uncle Bill, if someone wants to see a pic and you have one, I could always host it temporarily on my server and post it. Probably it's unnecessary, but if you like you can email me
cheers, B.

Thanks, Beo.

Alan, it's pretty much cosmetic. I've sold a couple of hundred and never had one result in failure.

Al -
The fold lines are forging flaws that just didn't get evened out in the final hammering - probably appeared to the kami that they would buff out and didn't, in the last go-'round. My villager had six that looked major, but stood up to Nick's telephone pole, and some abusive whacks. I've just stoned and buffed out all but two. T worst is around, and follows the outline of te cho. I thought at first that it had cracked when the cho was punched, but now (after stoning across it) it looks as though it is metal that was pushed away from the cut, and hammered down. One more time - VILLAGERS ARE TOUGH :D

I sent Cliff Stamp a village model with a severe fold line above the cho and asked him to break it just to see how much it would take to get it to fail at the fold line. He tried everything and couldn't break it.

Judging from the results I've had in stoning and polishing out the fold lines on the villager, I'd say the Durba is a 10/10 AK that only needed one more pass over the buffing wheel. If Uncle could only see it holding it in good light, you might be able to scrape it off with your thumbnail:D

I think I just bought Rene's HI katana on time... if not for that, I think I might overlook my fondness for wood handles and take it... I really want an AK and a Durba in my collection! :)
