Here are two 18th Century models. The top is made by shop 1. The bottom is made by our young up and coming shop 2 kami, Kumar Bishwakarma. Both have cracks in the handle which Pala has repaired with good success. But he still considers them "discount khukuris" and will offer them at discounted prices.

The Shop 1 is 18.5 inches overall, 7/16 thick blade, two inches wide and nicely done. Weight is 1lb 12oz.

The Kumar version is unmarked save for the single word, "Nepal" which is marked on the spine. This is his first attempt at an 18th Century and he offers it as a prototype. His version is 19 inches overall, just under 7/16 thick and 2&1/8 wide. Weight is 2lbs 2oz. The fit and finish on Kumar's khukuri are superior to the shop 1 model and the edge is harder. He has done a better job than shop 2 -- and this is just a kid hitting his stride! And, not surprisingly, the karda and chakma he made are considerable better than the shop 1 versions.

Scabbards are good but not the top quality like the Ganga Ram scabbards.

Both carry full HI guarantee and Pala will pay shipping cost.

Price for shop 1 is $120

Price for Kumar's version is $130

53 hours to go and I'll have a whole month - Sun, Moon, and Stars arrived on 9/4 and here it is almost 10/2...............NONONONONONONO.......I'll be strong!!!!

Rusty, if you're looking for someone to remove almost irresistable temptation, ie, these beautiful khukuri, sorry
wink.gif
. The 24 inch Harry Sirupati Special I logged today is almost going to be the last for this month.

. I expect to have an enjoyable time testing the ones I have ordered, and not coincidentally put my HIKV in remission for awhile.

Cornbread ain't s'possed ta be sweet!....Dagnabit gurl, whut did they teach you way up north in ....;) hehehe.

Yvsa,

I've got 10 khukuris either coming or on order at the present time...I think that the situation requires me to spend serious play time with the khuks to keep their spirits happy.

Then again, if the father of all khukuris comes along....

Harry

I forgot to say that blades are hatchmarked. Kumar put hatchmarks on one side and "flying birds" (his own rendition -- a very fine young kami he is but an artist? I am not sure. I guess they do look like flying birds if you stretch the imagination some.)

Anyway, these are both fine khukuris, one is just better. So give me a buzz if they look interesting to you.

A 24" special, Harry? TWENTY FOUR INCHES? Try
TWENTY FOUR KHUKURIS, with one more on the way.

Uncle Bill, I agree, and cold showers do not work on HIKV(hehe)

Rusty, I am giving some thought to a 47 inch Ang Khola Special aka AK-47....NOT!

Harry, by any chance do you know just whom named the disease HIKV?

Rusty,

I'd think that you might be heavily implicated in its origin(the evidence being the 24 + Khukuris you mention you have or have on order). Uncle Bill would be another likely accomplice. There may be others...John Powell, possibly....

I give up...will you enlighten this grasshopper, please? Thank you.

Uncle Bill, as for medication...nyet! See my occupation....

Kozak, I'll have to plea Nolo Cont. to this. As I've said in another thread, in another 5+ hours I'll have gone a whole month w/o a fix.
Should I fall off the wagon and start on my third dozen I know it'll be like I never stopped, and even harder to kick the next time than the last. Oh well, at least you don't have to buy ammo to feed khuks with like you do with guns. Every time I went to buy ammo, I'd end up instead with a new gun.

Rusty,
It's amazing the extent to which our rationalizations for our addiction are alike. Just this morning I was congratulating myself that, since I gave up acquiring guns in favor of khukuris, I was now able to use my knives right here in town to improve my property anytime I wanted to, instead of having to go out to the country to the range whenever I needed a fix.
