Small Insingo and SJ-75. Both blades are S35VN, both 1/8" thick, both are hollow ground, but they don't cut the same.

The SJ-75 stays sharp longer?? Why? Could it be the Hardening process? Anyone have thoughts on this?

I use them on the same tasks.

Yep, it's the difference between the heat treat of the two knives. From what I understand, Strider does a slightly higher RC hardness. I've read that on the RC hardness, that one point makes a big difference in hardness. That would explain why my 25 and Umnumzaan hold a better edge than my 21's. I believe the 59 range is hit with the 25 and Umnumzaan and 58 on the 21's. Of course, this is purely speculation on my part cause I really don't know jack about the HT process of CRK. What I do find is that I have a easier time with keeping the CRK's honed using a ceramic rod and a strop, which is why I love the CRK's I have. Can't do that with the Striders I have. I usually have to break out the sharpening system to get them back to hair popping. I think I read that Strider is 60 on their RC hardness.

Heat treat for sure. I am one of the few that think CRK is a tad soft, for me and the dozen folks that send me sebbies for sharpening. Ajack hit the nail.

First question before one starts discussing the heat treat.

Are they both sharpened the same?

Strider does not publicize their hardness, how do you know it's harder?

As said, most likely heat treatment. Other than that, the sharpening angle of the microbevel does a LOT in how long the blade stays sharp.

:D Yes, that's the kind of answer I was looking for, Ajack. This makes sense to me.

When brand new - Sharpened both with my Edge Pro @ 19 deg.

I guess CRK wants their meat and potatoes knife (the 21) to be as trouble free as possible. Slightly softer blade translates to easier sharpening and less chipping.

Thanks!

I just read on another forum, SKI through Josh, I believe, stated that their heat treat on their steel were around the 60/60 RC. of course that's fourth hand info.
