Hi all,

Wanted to share these latest additions to my collection. I commissioned Florida knife-maker John H Davis for the following two projects. The first is a fully forged custom knife based on his drop point hunter design. The second is a “Kar-Bar” job for my short Ka-Bar fighter.

Custom drop point hunter:
Steel: forged 52100 steel blade, differential heat treatment
Blade length: 3”
Handle: ghost green G10
Guard: brass
Sheath: Kydex

“Kar-bar” modification to Ka-Bar:
Short Ka-Bar black fighter, jimping added to spine and back guard removed, bluing job.

In short, I’m very pleased with his work on these two jobs. Here are the pics:

Very nice. I especially like the first one; very elegant blade!

Yes, he really came through on the craftsmanship; it's even prettier in real life. I tried to take good pictures. He's made that knife before, so it's a tried design. I specifically requested the finger guard and the G10 handle, which I think worked out well. Some of my friends at first questioned my choice of Ghost Green for the G10, but after they saw it, they realized that was a good choice.

EDIT:

I'm also thinking about using lemon juice or vinegar to bring the hamon out even more, per a method by BF member "kevin -the professor." Does anyone have experience with that? I think I'll use 2500 grit paper and Wenol to get the oxides off between etches. I have never done it though.
