Damn, those are nice, Ron! :)

Looking forward to the Hammer In at your place!

Ron: Could you tell me the steps in finishing the handles after glue up? Grits, slack belt, buffing, etc? Thanks. John L

Ron it's always a joy to look at your super-clean work. Those are beautiful, thanks for sharing!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments on these knives.

John, I'll try and run through the steps on how I do the handles.
Everything is stacked up and glued one at a time and the butt cap is screwed on via a threaded Tang and nut soldered to the butt cap. At this point everything is square with the exception of the antler and I start sanding with a 36 grit belt and remove everything I can along with shaping the guard and pommel with this grit.
I then go to a 80 grit belt and just remove the 36 grit scratches and then I go to a 150 grit and remove the 80 grit scratches. Next I go to a 400 grit Gater belt and remove the 150 grit scratches and then I use a small wheel on a 1x42" grinder with a 80 grit belt and put the trigger finger on the guard then I switch to a 1500 grit trizac belt on the 1x42" grinder and finish the guard and Pommel. Then it's directly to a sewed buff with green rough for the final finish on the fittings and handle. No hand sanding at all if I watch what I'm doing!!! Hope this helps! Ron

Those look great, as does all your work.

Looks like I need to buy some more grinders. It would be worth the money if i don't have to do any hand sanding.

Ron, those are truely beautiful! Not only is the worksmanship impressive, but I love the design. I can't believe you manage that without any hand sanding. I need to rethink the way I do things....
Great job. and thanks for sharing.

Beutiful! No hand sanding!? That ain't fair! :p I realy love your work, and how you combine the handle materials.

You definitely have a distinct style -- and a great one at that! :)

hey Ron -
How do you get the pommel to screw down square to the handle? Or is it still a rough shape when you tighten it and true it up at the grinder?

Brian, The pommel starts out rectangular and I just pre fit it on and off a bunch of times and grind the handle material off the ends till it lines up the way I want it to. Then I take everything back apart and glue it up and reassemble. Hope this answerers your question. Ron
