An upset mother-in-law spoke to us this week and told us that her beloved West highland white terrier of 16 years had passed away !
As I hiked today I got to thinking about their dog, sure nobody can complain if their dog lives to 16, and it was very loved and very pampered. What struck me though was that their dog had hardly done anything, it would go on the same short walk everyday and then it was home, dinner, bed ready to start the routine the following day !

It made me think that my dogs must be some of the luckiest pooches in the world ! Maisy started her life in England and travelled far and wide over there. She jumped on a plane and came out to us in Canada and goes in lush forests, lakes or the sea nearly every day. She's had two near death experiances since being here and was only saved thanks to an awesome vet but man what tales she must be able to tell Snicker eh !!!!!

Anyway ramblings over, some pics from today:

On the climb to the summit I spotted this cool wasps nest, must have been about the size of a soccer ball. This nest material takes a spark from a ferro rod great and made me wish I could send a few sparks up to it for all the stings I've had in the past !

Snicker reached the top first and then came running back to see what was taking us so long !

Maisy had found a ball and carried it all the way up only for Snicker to steal it and tease her with it !

Maisy tried to catch her but soon realsied it was a mission impossible !

I sat for a short time drinking some water and checking out the view in the opposite direction:

Back down at the bottom the girls cooled off in the lake, notice how Maisy managed to get her ball back !

Yeap, same goes for humans. You can live a perfectly sheltered routined life to the ripe old age of 102, but if you didn't do anything with it, what's the point? My landlord's dog is six years old and has floated every major waterway in the Western US.

Dunno.

Always seemed to me that the great joy in having dogs was that, no matter how we lived, they would not have traded (whatever) conditions in which they were living for another existence if I was not included.

Granted, doesn't say much for their judgement, but always heartens me.

:)

Maisy and the TT are indeed two lucky dogs! I wish I could get views like that everyday. At least you post the pics to share the views ;)

Great pics and post as always. I have a pit that is my dedicated pathfinder but sadly he is getting arthritis in his hips so the trails are getting shorter for us. Bet he has some good stories as well. Wife won't let the Yorkie go out with us, his only adventures are in the backyard

Anyone who says dogs don't smile doesn't know much about dogs, and those are some smilin' doggies!

Love the pics pit. Those dogs are awesome. Snicker's a Russell, right? Love those dogs, smart as a whip! The views out there are beautiful! Thank you for sharing.

pitdog always love your posts. i've had dogs most of my life & feel sorry for people that have'nt experienced the richness they bring to your life. by the way jack russells are snake killing machines. when the aussies were getting into poultry bigtime they had a serious problem with brown snakes. a very poisonious pest that moved into the structures to eat eggs. they imported hundreds of russells from england & erased the snakes.

While they are certainly lucky, I believe you are also a lucky dog!
Thanks far taking us along, I enjoy your hikes with the pups.

great pics Pit.....

It is so funny that no matter where your travels take you, the pooches always seem to find a ball. lol...:D

Your dogs are lucky indeed. Here dogs are not allowed any where without a leash. There is a public 80 acre wooded area close by.It is just outside of town .Owned by the state. A lot of people , including me, use to take our dogs there. It was a great place for dogs to romp unleashed and be dogs. This went on for decades. Not anymore. I cant help but think someone cried their little eyes out and put a stop to it. A lot of people are intolerant of dogs and do not wish to be inconvenienced the least little bit.

That's interesting to know, mine has caught and killed some lizards but has'nt come across a snake yet !

Great pics to go along with some interesting thoughts.
We have a Jack Russell and he is a snake killer.
