Here's my contribution to the two for one testing deal. I posted it in Knife Reviews and Testing in order to get more exposure. Here's the link: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=270134 . It's very long with a lot of pics, but I think it's worth the wait for the pictures to load. Let me know what you all think, and thanks again Uncle Bill for such a great opportunity! In case you can't tell from the review, I had a lot of fun with those two khuks.

Outstanding job, one of the best practical eval's/extreme tests I've seen, just wish I had a faster computer, took me a while to take it all in. I'm sure Cliff Stamp would approve of this one, and I know Uncle Bill will be happy with the job you've done. He wanted a thorough test and by golly you've delivered.

Sarge

Thanks Sarge, that means a lot coming from you, seriously. It took quite a while to get it all written, get the pics cropped, resized and uploaded, then I had to get it all organized as a post here on BF. Good to know that it was worth the effort though, I hope to put this and other reviews on a webpage sometime. It's certainly a fun way to pass the time.

Wow. Great tests! I am definitely going to be on the hunt for one of those finger-groove AKs now. I have a chiruwa AK and love it, but it's a little small compared to the 18" WW2 and 21" GS...
I would never put multiple finger grooves on a fighting knife, but on a working chopper they just make perfect sense.
You inspired me. I may take some scrap 1/2" wide conduit pipe from work and see if my WW2 and AK can chop through it. :)
I'd REALLY like to find an abandoned building slated for demolition where I could put the khuks and my Battle Mistress up against some locked doors, wooden and steel. When we demolished our own building at work, I hadn't caught HIKV yet. ;) Maybe we'll knock down another...
Will post results, of course!

I couldn't get the pix but in this case I didn't need them -- the 1000 words did it. Hell of a test and many thanks.

that's a very nice review RR - I'll have to go back to read it again in more detail later on

sometime I should probably try to collect some well-done HI reviews like this (authors consenting of course) and put them somewhere on the HI (or FAQ) site.

For the meanwhile, I saved the images locally and also the text of the review.

Thanks for all of the compliments. I'm embarrassed that the photos shut down on me, I wasn't fully aware of what the bandwidth limitations meant. I thought that only limited how many pictures I could upload in a day, not how often it could be viewed. Oh well, at least the review is getting a lot of views. I'll try to get it back in action for tomorrow, until then, well, it is pretty wordy so I think it gets the point across even in the absence of pics. Oh, and beoram, whenever you do the consolidated reviews, feel free to add mine. Actually I would be honored.

The actual word count is 3,642, the characters, no spaces count is 15,780, and it has 317 lines when imported into a Word document  . No wonder it took so long to type! Thanks again for slogging through it guys!

I couldn't get the pics either. :( Shame...I wanted a reward for getting through the 1,000 words! ;) :D

Seriously, very nice review. :)

Pics are back up now, I upgraded my account and now have 150MB of daily bandwidth usage. I may still switch to another hosting site if I can find better prices somewhere else, but at least I'm covered for the next month.

Nice review!:) You did a great job. And those pictures are really nice. Some of them remind me of a place I used to go camping or when I needed to be alone for a while. Thanks for sharing this with us and bringing back good memories.:D

I like! I bet if you'd hit the 'brake line' with the sweet spot on the belly of the khuk, you woulda gotten even further thru it.

My Sher AK is the one I use to cut coins and stuff. Blued, gold-gildes Sword of Shiva. Came sharp!

Thanks fer sharin!

I've just finished updating this with fewer and smaller pictures, there are more details in the actual review but suffice it to say that it's a little more dial-up friendly now.

RR, you did a great job with the review. I have never had the guts to take one of these things out for such a rough ride...intentionally. What I did, and I think this goes along with Sarge's warning in another thread, is to underestimate my BAS's cutting ability. It went through a sapling and into a concrete paving block before I could check the swing. The same thing happened to my blade as did yours. Put a good chunk in the brick, too. And then I tore up some well seasoned mesquite with the Shanker 18" AK. Wood really doesn't stand a chance against these blades, does it? Again, congrats; you did a good job.

well done review, text and photos.

Er, did you happen to try the khuks on a bear?

Thanks again for the compliments everyone, they are greatly appreciated. Ferrous Wheel, that's a beautiful blade! That may end up being my next project. I'm starting to like this Kumar blade so much that I'm thinking of doing a lot of work on it, like new handle scales with a fully enclosed tang, blued blade, and a new sheath. I'll be sure to post updates once I get around to it, this will be a very long term project as in several years. Uncle Bill, Cliff was definitely an inspiration when I decided to begin putting my test together, I just wanted to add more pics to help illustrate the results. It's too easy to be unintentionally ambiguous with words, and I subscribe to the theory that a picture is worth 1000 words. By that standard the word count for this is about 30,000; maybe I should write a book like John Powell. ;)

Kismet, no bear-thrashing this time around. As much as I like my khuks, I'm not quite ready to trust them to make up a 300 pound weight advantage on the bear's side .
