Sanu sent a couple of 15 inch Sirupatis that are some of the best and lightest I've seen to date from BirGorkha. Sanu is practicing up for the "thin" khukuris. This 15 incher is actually a bit longer than 15 inches. Blade is 5/16 thick and 1.25 wide and the knife weighs in at about 13 ounces. Very, very quick.

I rate the knife 10 out of 10. Fit is about perfect for handcrafted, finish is magic stone mirror, hardness is 59 to 60 Rc in chopping area and edge will pop a hair or two. Handle is dark rosewood which Gelbu tells me has been cured and aged so it should never crack if a little linseed oil is applied. The karda and chakma are nicely done and sized for this rig. Scabbard and frog are very good quality.

We have two of these Sirupatis which we will sell for $75 delivered to your door.

Call or email if interested.

Sanu's have always had a very strong spirit to me.

At 13 oz, and with a wood handle that you can take down a little in the front and a bit more that that right behind the rings, you two guys may have found yourselves overmatched.

I'm 5'4 and 50 years old. I got two Sirupati 12"ers. One is a bit shorter and angles a bit more at the elbow. A tool.

The other one is lighter, thinner, longer 8 1/2" blade, straighter, and faster than my mind. It doesn't move by thought speed, it moves at the quicker reflex speed.

That's why I do NOT carry it. It scares me. If I was startled, I'm afraid the next thing I knew I'd be wondering how the khuk got in my hand, and why was there blood on the blade. Those two 15"ers for normal sized guys might be mine's equivalent.

When you pick it up, before you open the package, hold it and see if you can feel an attitude inside something like a junkyard rottweiler with a toothache and hemmorhoids. If you do, by all means see what you think of it.

Remember the play/movie "Little Shop of Horrors"? Oh my lord, my 12 1/2" Sirupati just aquired a name... Audrey - the alien plant that lives on blood in the play and is always demanding "Feed Me".

We Miamians have always been overlooked in our tastes, I feel!

Rusty:

I feel that we "normal" size people (up to 5' 6") are just fine. Everybody else is just abnormaly tall!

(I'm 5'6" myself! Just a bit younger tho!)

I'll let you know about the "attitude" when it gets here. My Kobra sure has one! I know Jimmie is gonna rag on me now! "No self control!" he's gonna say! I can hear it now!

I figure I'm normal size because my feet are 12 inches long. That's how long a foot is supposed to be, right? (30.48cm) So I'm normal.

It's funny how many people are smaller than normal size. Not me, though. I'm normal. I'm one of the few normal people.

Vince,
you "NORMAL"!!When i think of you & Blues with these "LIGHT" Kuk'S,turned loose!I'll just nickname you two "CHAOS
& DISASTER"!I DON'T WANT TO BE ANYWHERE NEAR YOU TWO WHEN YOU START PLAYING.

Rusty,

It was your musings on the 12" Sirupati that impelled me to pick (or be picked by) the version made by Sher. Even though it is 1/2" across the spine, it still feels light and fast to me. A weapon as well as a tool. A great khukuri and one I won't soon part with.

The same goes for this khukuri. I've often read your and Howard's (amongst others) remarks about light fast khukuris and find that I am in agreement. The 18" Kumar Kobra I have taught me so, but to my mind, a 15"er should be faster and more maneuverable still, not so much due to any weight differential but the difference in length allowing for quicker changes.

As for "normal sized", I dunno about that. At age 47, 5'10", 195 lbs. most all of my khukuris feel quite good in the hand, but to paraphrase Orwell, "Some are more equal than others."

Vince:

Not sure if our tastes have been overlooked, but I find that there are some fellow South Floridians who are quite the "gourmands" (or "epicures" if you will) when it comes to their tastes in khukuris. Men like Ray C., and Tom up in Miramar et al. I'm proud to have joined their and your ranks. Looking forward to a South Florida "Konvention" to put faces to the names as well.

Jim:

Thanks for the nice words, your HIKV is yet in its dormancy. It will be fun to watch its progression. In the meantime, enjoy that superb khukuri Uncle chose for you. More will follow.

Dave

Email and a phone call took them away before I could drink my first Heineken.

Vince, you'll have to email or call but I'll find something for you, don't worry.

Good steel doesn't last long, does it? RayC was the first of the Florida tribe to get the HI khukuri but I think not the last!!
