Does anybody out there have a Warhawk or Military hawk made by Two Hawks? I have just been told that mine should be ready in a couple of weeks :D and am looking for feedback from other users.

Regards,

Ed

I have the regular Warhawk, which has some significant differences in fit and finish from the military version. The military is great, but I wanted the traditional look.

The steel finish is as good as most fine blued firearms. The shaft is nicely sanded, stained, and finished. The head to shaft junction is flawless. All three of the cutting edges will shave. The points between the primary edge and the forward/trailing edges are sharp enough to do some serious damage. The overall weight is low and the hawk is very fast and lively in your hand. I am sure that you will be very happy with your new Warhawk.

For those who would like to order a Warhawk but are deterred by the price, give thought to the Competition model if you can live without the sharpened leading and trailing edges. The dimensions are very similar (may be the same, but only Two Hawks can answer that). Two Hawks lists the finish as one grade less deluxe, but it is still pretty extraordinary. The Competition model costs a little over half as much as the Warhawk. I spent a couple hours this afternoon chopping brush with it (about 1 1/2" max branches) and can heartily recommend it for such chores, as well as for throwing and, presumably, fighting (which I have thankfully never had to do).

I also was contacted by 2Hawks as I have had on order 2 Military Warhawks for a very very long time. When I get them, we can compare notes.

Guys, thanks for the kind words. And VERY sorry for delays in delivery. Have been feeling really rotten the last several weeks since they decided to play with my heart medications, and have been doing a lot less hours in the shop than I need to .... and a lot of time don't even get to answering e-mails since I don't have the energy.
Trying to get caught up on some of that today, and hopefully will be back in the shop tomorrow after a 2-day break of getting NOTHING done. Don't ever get old - it is bad for your body.

ANSWERS: The Competition is a "litter-mate" to the Warhawk. They are both machined and ground from the same proprietary 6150VSS casting from my molds. The difference is the edge geometry ... the Competition is optimized for sticking in a block of wood (which it does well ... hawk championship at Riverton 4 years in a row). The Warhawk (both "civilian" polished and "military" low-reflectance) is optimized for slicing flesh in less than optimum circumstances. It does well for traditional slashing cuts, and hooking cuts and thrust cuts (like a knife) which aren't available when using other hawks in a fighting situation.
Finish differences: The Competition is likely to get seriously beat up in normal use so it gets a Hardware grade (80-grit base) finish. That keeps the price down. The Warhawk (civilian) gets a Field grade (220 with 320 "tuneup") finish and a highly-polished handle with a London Oil gunstock finish. The Military version, to the contrary, is a very low-reflectance hawk with a BROWN (matches the real world) "parkerized" head finish, and a steel-wool-rubbed dark stained handle with a military paracord grip wrap. When in line-company or special-operations assignments (or if your UH-60 just crashed in a bad spot) "shiny" is not a good thing.
TO THOSE WAITING: Some days are good, some days are bad, but I am making progress on your hawks. MILITARIES will take the longest due to drying time on rawhide and finish. Check the updates on the AVAILABILITY page which I may get "updated" tomorrow ... the priority is working on the hawks but sometimes I have to do "paperwork" too.
Best regards,

Robert,
Your health is important. Take care of yourself and finish the hawks as you can.

Take Care,

Robert,

Take your time and look after your health - we want you to be there when I come for my next hawk!!

Regards,

Ed

PS - do you have a telephone number?

Thanks, guys. The doc changed the meds again today and says I should have more energy. I ain't holding my breath.
No phone line to the machine shop (on purpose). Time is money, and what time I am able to spend upright and busy needs to be put on trying to catch up on hawks for customers. Just sure as hell I'd be in the middle of a critical grind and the phone would ring with some yo-yo trying to sell me insurance I don't qualify for any more.
