In case any of you ever did any business with Bob (Two Hawks), I thought I'd post this. He made some darn fine pieces, but health issues slowed him down this past year or so. He died August 11. Robert E. Thalmann
Former Fairbanks resident Robert E. Thalmann, 62, of Fort Benton, Mont., died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at Missouri River Medical Center of natural causes.
Bob was born May 14, 1943, at Honolulu, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, to Victor and Ruby Thalmann. He was raised in Honolulu and Texas.
He graduated from Texas Military Institute and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.
He married Mary L. Kassmier on Aug. 4, 1965, in Fort Benton and they had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Bob received his commercial helicopter pilot's license in 1967. He was a helicopter instructor at Fort Walters, Texas. After the Vietnam War ended, he went to work for PHI in Morgan City, La.
In 1975, they moved to Fairbanks where Bob worked for ERA Helicopters flying the trans-Alaska oil pipeline. He became interested in law enforcement and took classes at the University of Alaska Fairbanks while working for the city of Fairbanks. Bob then worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and later became a police and fire officer at Fairbanks International Airport. He retired in 1993 to pursue his hobby of making tomahawks and knives. Bob was a police officer with the city of Fort Benton.
He enjoyed going to rendezvous and making tomahawks and knives and was an avid reader and history buff.
He was preceded in death by his son, Victor Thalmann, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Thalmann of Fort Benton; and son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Erika Thalmann of Helena, Mont.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15, at Benton Funeral Home with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Benton Funeral Home.
He will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Benton.
