For the last couple months I have taken a bit of a detour from the knives and have been making some art pieces out of material I have on hand. Mostly wrought iron wagon wheel. I'm still know to make a few knives but have been enjoying this new adventure.

Here's one I just finished. Did the finishing touches on Gumby a little bit ago. Still playing with the idea of plum browning him. I now have lots of ideas for future Gumby's. This one stands around 8" which is pretty much average for Gumby's. He was made from more wrought iron wagon wheel. The original plan was to hot punch in the face features. The mouth worked the best but when I tried the nose I felt like I was spinning my wheels. I had to resort to plastic surgery done with the drill press and rotary tool. I figure this fellow will bring some smiles.

After looking at Gumby face I realized I forgot to give him eyebrows. Guess I'm not done yet.

Dave, My Gumby already lost his knife so that's it for him. I started on Pokey last night. Hope you post pictures of your frog when your done.

I've got a question for you. I've been looking for a modern iron supplier. I looked in some old "Hammer Blow's" and seen it advertized but those companies must have gone under now.

Those characters are great! Do Gumby's arms spin around?

Hey Mike, Originally I had the arms so they would spin. I needed to bend the top of Gumby some so it would balance. Even with the iron heated up and with a very slight bend one side of the arm hole broke and I ended up welding it and that stopped the arms moving. It really helps to get the hole center to.

You guys are an inspiration, I,m thinking of trying Spongebob Square Pants. :)
