For a number of years I've owned a Buck Koji folder with Quincewood scales and "Japan" stamped on the blade. I recently purchased another Buck Koji folder with dark brown burlwood scales and "USA" with the Bos insignia on the right side of the blade. The stairstep patterns on the bolsters are different on the two knives. The finish is finer on the second knife, with the edges of the wood scales radiused/sanded and the blade spine slightly and pleasingly rounded. The action is also a bit smoother on this knife. I do love Quincewood, however
. Both are among the most attractive production knives I've seen.
Can anyone tell me about the change in manufacturing venues, materials, and the slight design changes, eg: when and why. I imagine Koji Hara was involved in the redesign, as the bolter pattern is different. I'm just curious, really, and would appreciate any information you might have. Thanks.
