well... i had some time to spare so i thought i'd toss up my first review.

i purchased the CRKT M21-04 a little over a year ago... since then it has always been attached to my hip (cept when in school). right outta the box i knew it was a pretty good knife... the blade was very sharp and cut through fish and small wood like a hot spoon through butter.

so far it has been with me on 8 camping trips (winter spring and summer)... cut through small sapplings, thick rope, fish, and various other things.

the knife is a little heavy but i believe the weight is well worth it..

the blade is nice and thick.. i've gone through many lids of canned beans and beef with it and no bends or even chips.

the knife has a secondary manual locking mechanism near the top of the handle.. (where the blade meets the handle). its very nice because once in place theres no way that the knife will "accidentally" close on your fingers.

also it has a quick opening mechanism... means that you can open 'er up with one hand nice and quickly with a smooth swinging action. (i live in canada and here any knife that is spring loaded or centrifugal opening is considered illegal [i.e. switchblades and butterfly knives]) the part where u use to open the knife (back side of handle) also serves as a hilt so ur finger doesnt slip upwards during use.

i'd recommend this folding knife to anyone who loves to hike, camp, fish, and canoe. great to keep in your pocket.

for around a hundred bucks this is one knife you wont regret buying.

now the next knife i'd like to review is the muela scorpian... now the first time i saw this baby i thought to myself.. dang that is one big ass knife.

this knife was purchased about 2 years ago... been with me on every camping and day hike i've ever been on since then.

now on to the good stuff...

this knife has gone through thick and thin with me, been rained on
dropped in the sea, and caked in mud...

once again this knife has gone through many sapplings, fish, oysters, and other shell fish. when we go camping its a great help for building my little a-frames that i crawl under to sleep in (where i live [b.c.] you dont really need a tent to sleep in, just a tarp or an make shift a-frame).

i believe the size and weight of the knife is decent... its pretty light for its size.

although i use my M21 for delicate work, the point on the scorpion is just as good as the M21 for doing precise work, like making pins for snares.

although the knife is good on its own i've made a few modifications to it...

the leather sheath has been wrapped in para cord. i found a pouch from a very small leatherman that my father bought me when i was young and super glued it to the side of the sheath. inside that pouch is a small whet stone for sharpening on the go. i found a very small pipe which had one end closed, wrapped it in paracord and clued it to the side next to the pouch. inside i placed a round flint stone i bought from a local military surplus store...
==========================================================

with these two knives i've been through thick and thin, wet and cold, hot and sunny.

they have been a help in everything. and i'd definetly recommend them to ANYONE whos looking for a new knife... both knives were about a hundred bucks...

well, thats my first review, i know its a long read but i thought i should post about the two knives im never without. happi readings.

You use your knife to open up cans of beans? That's hardcore. I take my manual can opener from the kitchen when I go camping.

You need a SAK! You shouldn't use your sharp knife to open cans. If you don't want a SAK, just get a P-38 opener from an army surplus store.

AMEN to that, back in my Redman chewing days, my SAK's cut open more "improvised soda can spitoons" than I can count!

So LC, you no longer indulge in a wad of West Virginia coleslaw?:D I still enjoy an occasional dip of Copenhagen whilest grinding and playing outdoors. I know it's bad for you but WTF, gotta be a badboy at something.:D

hey guys thanks for the warm welcomes... and yes usually when i go camping i dont take things like can openers... usually my go-bag has first aid kit, 75 feet of rope, roll of multi-purpose cotton twine, flint and steel, small flashlight, and some clothes... plus those two knives that are always attatched to my hip.

i got my girlfriend the CRKT M16 (around the same time i picked up the M21) which she brings along with her on every hike and camping trip we go on. the M16 is smaller but nevertheless works like a charm. i made her a go-bag last year with a kershaw Outcast D2, 75 feet of rope, matches, and a first aid kit. kinda funny how i ended up putting that D2 in there... after i gave her the M16.. she took a look at my knives and said, "how come i get the girl knife?" so i tossed in the D2 and she seems pretty happy with it. (D2 is decent for chopping as well as doing other work).

anyways enuf babling,

xaero, i picked up my crkt m21-04 at house of knives.

i believe there are 2 versions. one with just a plain blade and another with half serrated.. so what ever floats your boat.

btw. i always keep my knives cleaned, polished, and razor sharp.. especially these two.. so i don't really mind cracking open a can of beans with em.. i've done it many times and i know that the knife lasts because they are reliable.

also about the SAK, which i assume stands for swiss army knife, i usually carry a leatherman with me for prolonged camping trips so i havent really had a big need for a SAK since all my work is done with the two knives (M21 and Scorpion)

im currently in the process of re-modifying my muela scorpion so that it can carry a crkt m16 on the side. will post pics when finished.
