I'm in a lotta trouble, guys. I just received an 18 inch and a 22 inch Kobra, both by Kumar. I also got my Tarwar delivered at the same time.

I have this uncontrollable urge to "cuts some heads". Maybe if I dress all in black, wait 'till it gets real late and dark.... Nope, don't even move in that direction!!

Oh yeah, a dashing, slashing swordsman's fantasy in three pieces of steel. I am most definitely waiting for my Everest Katana, with visions of

dancing in my head!

SHIVA lives and works with the Kamis of BirGorka! The Dwarf screams but Nataraj continues to dance!

As Jim Clifton sez, you ain't got HIKV until you 've ordered 7 khukuris. THEN, you have HIKV.

For another unsolicited bit of information, one of the manifestations of Shiva is Nataraj (or Natraaj), Hindu God of the Dance. He is usually portrayed as a Dancing God within a Ring of Fire, dancing on the back of a Dwarf, which represents Humanity. Often the Dwarf is laughing, crying, screaming or cringing as Shiva merrily brings about suffering on our poor souls.

Hence the name:

I know the mark of Kumar, since I three of his blades. I also know the mark for Bura, since the former owner of my Tarwar pointed it out for me. Is there any where listed the marks for all the regular Kamis? I did a search in HI and HI Archives and can't seem to find the right combination of description.

Thanks.

Thanks rdnzl and Bill for the information on the Kamis marks and my favorite Hindu Deity.

Since Kumar and Bura are my current favorites, maybe I could tatoo their marks on my ......?

DD,
You could also try the khukuri FAQ on the HI site, it has several of the kami's bio's and marks listed. That's what I used recently to check the mark on a BAS a bought. It is by Murali (mark of the Tristul) and is very nice. I also have a Malla by Kumar, I think Murali's knife is a little nicer, but not much. Kumar's knifes really are great, though.

Congratulations to DD on joining the ever-growing band of Kumar Kobra owners.

You can alway tell a KKO by his neatly trimmed hedge, his amply-stocked woodpile, his unblistered hands and unstrained back, and the fact that his surviving enemies tend to have only one arm.

Enjoy!

Death Dancer, I think I can help you out of trouble. Feel free to send me one!

Your signature at the footer is interesting! You write you're a Chinese in Japanese, and live in Kalifornia. Is it the peoples republic of Kalifornia, or one of a state in Amerika?

Well, you guys are going to think I've really gone around the bend, but I did it again--I bought the two 30 inch Kobras posted on Sale/Trade from Bowie. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them, but it seemed too good a deal to pass up, especially with the 18 inch Ang Khola thrown in. As I've said, it's only a matter of starvation.

One question that I am wondering is: has/does any other Kamis make Kobras? It always seems that they are referred to as Kumar Kobras. I know that all three I possess have his mark.

One other thing I have also noticed is that all the 30 inchers I have purchased have damaged scabbards, with at least one from the point punching out the top.

About my Japanese statement: When I was growing up I ran around with a Japanese crowd, partially because there weren't too many Filipinos to hang with, partially because I was very much into KARATE. Since there didn't seem a very politic way to introduce myself to Japanese parents as Filipino, I started to refer to myself as part Chinese (a lot of us have this in our ethnicity). So my "Buds" tought me to state this fact for my many Japanese elders, who promptly hid their daughters!

I see your point of complex circumstances. Are you sure the elders didn't see your "interests" in your profile?

Dear WrongFriend,

A most astute observation. Perhaps I should have been more respectful and spoken only when I was kneeling or laying flat on my stomach

Funny stuff.

I've noticed that trying to get a 30 inch khukuri back into the scabbard takes some caution. It takes some practice and even patience to get it right. Take care or you'll damage the scabbard. I sometimes cheat by tapping the rig edge down on a table or anything for that matter to help the blade get around the corner.
