Two layer SAK recommendations

Currently EDC an alox cadet alongside a full size folder. Got the itch for a new SAK though and I really like the two layer models. Alox or cellidor doesn't make a difference to me. Which twonlayer do you carry and why? Thanks ahead.

The two-layered SAK's I carry the most are:
- the Cadet (which you already have)
- the Compact (blade, scissors, can opener+cap lifter in 2 layers.. basically everything you may use on the average day, and because it has "plus scales" you have all available tools inside the scales)
- the alox Rancher (two blades, awl and the cap lifter... ideal!).

Pioneer/Soldier. Full stop.

I have a Pioneer X on order, and think scissors are worth the extra layer, but you did say two. The Compact is nice, and although the combo tool is underrated for sure, it's still not quite as nice as the two tools separately. The usefulness of a corkscrew and hook I'll leave to you.

The new Walker is nice if you think you'd use a saw. And the Vic saw is definitely a performer.

Keep in mind that these are all going to be larger than the 84mm Cadet, regardless of how many layers you have. Check out http://sakselector.info/, mindful of the fact that several of them (including the Tourist, which I'd otherwise recommend) will be discontinued and hard to find.

I like the Sportsman for the nail file, which also can serve as a letter opener or #1 phillips driver, and the corkscrew, an implement I hardly ever used over past decades, but now a member in full standing of the team. As a bonus, its 84mm self seems only slightly smaller than its 91mm brethren, but almost disappears loose in pocket (likes to hide under my wallet carried in LF.) As a result, I retired my Tinker for 2 layer uses and now carry the Sportsman in its place. It's not really EDC, but carried often, always when out for a social evening, and sure enough, has been called upon for compassionate cork pulling when a dedicated corkscrew went missing.
My scissors need are handled by a Micra that lives in my 5th pocket every day and backs up any knife or multi-tool I might be carrying.

I am really enjoying my Compact. If you find scissors useful its the way to go.

The electrician. I find more uses for the second smaller straight edge blade much more often than I ever would for the can opener. It's a great model. Both blades will get nasty sharp and cut like crazy. And it takes just a couple minutes of touch up to get your edge right back again.

**Also, welcome to the forums!

So jealous that you have a Rancher. It's definitely #1 on my SAK Want List.

I carry an Executive because the nail file, scissors, main blade, and orange peeler are super useful for lunch in the work field.

That's not a real awl. Give me one like the Soldier & Pioneer.

I like the ones on my Tinker, Super Tinker, Swisschamp, and Sportsman better because the awl placement allows for additional implements on those SAKs. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the Soldier/Pioneer in-line awl. To the contrary, it's clearly the best, but over decades have I bored through a fair amount of wood, plastic, leather and soft metals using my T-mounted awl, keeping in mind that "best possible" is the enemy of "good enough."
