hi, guys.
long time lurker here. thought it would be nice then to start with some WIP.
for some time now I have been playing with idea of two layered blades (iron and steel) and after making some japanese style razors I went over to my favorite blade shape and did it... here is the result.
heating up round bars of W2 and forging it down to rectangle shape.
cleaning the surfaces with grinder and welding corners...again (left is steel and iron is on the right)
forge welding in two to three heats and starting on the tang by hand
and finishing it on the power hammer
after 30 to 45 minutes, this is what I end up with
I have a feeling that until now I was mixing ingredients and cooking them and now is time to serve.
after some grinding, ready for HT
it is a bit slower to grind a bevel after quenching but since I quench in water more blades survive that way.
end product...first is finished with stone wash and second with just rough paper (220). since they are meant to be users it think there is no need to go on 2500 grit. maybe later in some special pieces.
they both are around 100 mm, and 60 HRC.
well this is it for now, I hope you like it and thanks for reading. comments are most welcome (please be gentle it is my first post).
