Two machines one vfd

This weekend I picked up a powermatic 1150 variable speed drill press. It requires 3 phase power. I'm wondering if I can come off my kbac 24 vfd that runs my disc grinder. The drill press has a 3/4 hp motor and the vfd is rated for 1 hp. I won't be running these two machines at the same time. I was thinking if the vfd was on it would supply power to which ever machine I started. The disc vfd has an off on switch as well as a start stop. I would hate to fry one of these machines with my lack of electrical knowledge. Thanks for the help.

It is a bit of work, but add a female socket to your vfd, put male plugs on the tools. This way you can never try to power both simultaneously and fry the drive.

Mike, HERE is a thread that covers exactly what you are wanting to do. As long as both machines are never powered simultaneously, you should be good. I'm running 2, 2hp 3phase motors and 1, 3/4hp 3 phase motor on a single 2hp rated TECO FM50 VFD.

Steveo thanks for the plug idea but I didn't want to plug and unplug a machine.

Nathan, thanks for the link. That's exactly what I was looking for. I did a search before I posted but it didn't kick back any helpful results.

Thanks again.
