I've come to REALLY like my Manix. For a while I was planning to just get it in the trade I was doing, play around with it and just experience it in general, then trade it off for knives I thought I'd use more. Turns out I want to get a 2nd Manix now. It's a tank, I'm in love with the ergos, I finally got to experience G10 (What a great scale material it is, I'm a convert), the lock is beefy as hell. I was worried about using such a big knife, because they tend to be thick, but thanks to the well-designed flat grind I don't mind using this next to my SAKs, which are my knives of choice. Thank you Spyderco for producing such a great design. Solid preformer and an excellent value at its pricepoint.

Alright, now that I got that praise off my chest, two questions about the Manix. First, the opening feels gritty towards the end of the movement, just before it locks. I've cleaned it well and it persists. I've heard this reported with other models, such as the Millie. Does it just need broken in more?

Second, my pivot seems to loosen pretty easily. I get horizontal play easily. I've been thinking about sending it in to get checked out because it doesn't feel normal. Anyone else have some input into this?

Thanks.

Don't know about the gritty problem, but I had the same problem with my pivot. I used the NON-PERMANENT locktite product (blue maybe?) to help hold the pivot screw. It worked great to keep the blade play from coming back (been about 8 months now, I think). I would strongly caution against using too much. I took the screw out, put a small drop in and replaced the screw to the desired tightness. A couple hours later, the pivot was completely frozen because some locktite reached between the blade and liner. I had to take the entire knife apart and clean it. This is a PITA and getting the bushings to line up properly while fighting against the lockbar strength was not fun.

So if you use the product, don't take the screw all he way out. Just get the product around the threads.

I had the same issue with the pivot of my Para loosening up, and a dab of blue loctite fixed that for good.

Do any stores carry loctite or do I need to order it online? Thanks.

All hardware stores and gunsmithing stores carry loctite. The stuff in the hardware store (non-perm) is the same as the "special" gunsmithing stuff they just charge double for it.
