Tomorrow will be the 60th day, give or take a day, that I have carried my Sebenza from the time I woke up, until the time I went to sleep. The knife has "slug mugs" on the clip, no other markings on the scales. I carry the knife all by it's lonesome in my front right jeans pocket. I love the way the scratched and worn scales look on some of the knives I have seen on here. I always carry my main blade with nothing in that pocket, merely for ease of access, and to not drop it taking keys out or something in a hurry, and not notice. What I'm trying to say is the Sebenza gets no special treatment because It is a Sebenza, this knife is a worker and is treated as such. I can imagine a lot of people carry a knife daily but really have trouble finding tasks to do with it, don't get my wrong, I have cut my fair share of paper just to handle the knife. It is an amazing tool and you can truly tell it is a fine piece of equipment. This knife gets used extensively day in and day out for a multitude of tasks. I'm a Paramedic, so at work it gets used a lot. Not to cut seatbelts, or break glass, or pry into a locked car or building. There are tools for those specific purposes, all of which are better than any knife made today in my opinion, and there are professionals who do those kinds of roles, Firemen, and Police officers. Quick side bar, I laugh when a new Emt shows me a knife they got because they see my on bladeforums and just looking at knives in general, and they pull out a knife with a glass breaker, and seatbelt cutter. Might as well buy a knife with a fire hydrant and handcuffs attached to it, some sort of way, while your at it. Even some higher end companies produce those and market them to EMS, for what? I'm sure I will never know. I know I'm rambling, so I will get my point across before no one decides to even read to what I really wanted to say. My knife gets used at work, to open boxes to stock the supply closet at the station. Then those heavy duty cardboard boxes are cut into manageable sizes with my Sebenza, when the opportunity arises to eat if something needs to be cut, it does the job wonderfully. At home, I'm constantly opening things for my step son, he likes me sharpening his pencils, even though we have a sharpener, he watches and thinks its cool. Cutting up fruits and vegetables for my 18 month old daughter, handles no problem. Yard work, It has cut rubber hose, opened bags of garden soil and things of the like, weed trimmer string, you name it, I've cut holes in plant buckets that needed to drain better. This is almost unbelievable but the other day a nice sized field rat was cornered in my shed and had it's honorable death by way of the Sebenza. The knife even gets used several times a week in the kitchen cutting and preparing meats and veggies for the misses or I, whoever is pretending they know how to cook that night. The knife gets washed after every dirty or food prep use, oiled lightly maybe 3 times a week, and sharpened on Sundays, It was taken apart twice for getting gritty after playing with the garden soil. So the knife has seen a lot of use day in and day out, and the only complaint, that really wasn't a complaint is in the sharpness department. I could not get it as sharp as when I bought it. It was really sharp in the eyes of the type of person that would use a seatbelt cutter on their "specialty" knife, but to me I wanted more. I figured just use it, keep it maintained and see what happens. Well about 2 weeks ago the knife blade was dinged up cutting some type of pallet wrap we are using to keep the dogs out of the garden, and i forgot that I also had chicken wire in the mix and the blade was hit on it several times causing some minor issues. Figured it would work itself out but today it was still noticeable and the knife needed sharpening. I spent about 40 minutes, so lets say 4x's as long as usual on the sharpmaker, and wow. My only complaint, not really complaint, about this knife is completely a non issue now. This is hands down the sharpest knife I've had the pleasure of using, It is sharper than the scalpels in our ob kits at work for sure. At least I like to think so. Up until now my zt 0301 was the sharpest knife I own, the misses has a scary sharp endura 4 in vg-10 that was sharper, way sharper than the zt. She uses the knife often, but I had no problems keeping the endura scary sharp on the sharpmaker. She even on occasion will pull her knife out when I go to cut something, laugh and say, mine is sharper. Well tomorrow morning when she gets home from her shift on the meat wagon, she won't own the sharpest cutting tool in the house anymore. So when I had already thought the sebenza was perfect for me, today, I've found that it is more than perfect and I honestly will probably never carry another knife. That is all. Sorry for rambling, I've been up for a while, we work 24 hour shifts on a 12 hour truck, so that sucks, and the baby wanted to play with daddy all day. So when she finally decided to nap, I played with the sharpmaker and this sharpening epiphany with the sebenza happened. I was so excited I had to tell someone, but no one I know in my daily life would care, or understand. So maybe someone who loves knives and uses, truly uses knives often, will read this and say yep, "The Sebenza is the man, and Chris Reeve is god."
