Two new Case knives that will always be with me

My Mother passed this past Saturday, and I wanted to buy a new knife that day that I could carry to the funeral, and EDC from now on.

I went to the local hardware store and picked out a Swayback Jack in CV with Chesnut bone.

The day of the funeral my best friend brought me a Case mini copperlock.
Both are very special to me, and one or the other will be carried every day.

The Mini Copperlock had a small pitted spot, so I cleaned it and went ahead and forced the patina.

I have many knives, but these two, and the Case Trapper my father last carried are the ones that mean more to me than any.

Sorry for the loss of your mom. Mines been gone almost two years now and a day doesn't go by that I don't think of her.

Carrying a special knife is a good way for us nuts to remember.

Hi,

Both are a fine pair. The more I see of the chestnut bone, the more I like it.

I am sorry for your Mother's passing. You have my deepest sympathies. It is amazing the way we imbue objects with meaning and memories that are important to us as a touchstone or talisman. Carry them both as you will and let them help you remember.

I lost my mother three years ago and all I can say is hang in there, you will learn to live with it.take care and god bless.

Sorry for your loss, Ken.

Thanks very much to all of you for the kind words.
I don't mention much personal stuff here on BF, but wanted to explain why these two are special to me.

I stuck it in an orange, potato, apple, and then in an orange again. I first cleaned the blade with a degreaser and then left it in each one for about an hour. Except for the potato, which I took out after 20 min.
I also cut up two oranges and an apple as I went.

After removing blade I let it set about 5/10 min, then washed with hot water before going to next fruit. I did go straight from apple to orange at the end, then washed with soap and oiled.

My sympathy, Ken. I lost 4 close ones in '09. And my parents and grandparents are long gone. This year, a forum friend sent me a half-worn-out Case Texas jack that his father had carried, and I sent him some knives. I will tell you that that 6292 is now my favorite EDC, along with an ancient Schrade 881. Say... have you bought Steve Pfeifer's new book on Case? It is superb! Have a great YEAR.

Thanks, and my sympathy goes out to you for the close ones you lost in 09.

I've been meaning to order that book, but haven't got around to it yet. All of my books are old and out dated, so I do need it. I've read here that its the best out there right now.

I've been into Case knives on and off since the mid to later 70's. I think this is about the third time I've gotton back into traditional knives, lol.
I sold off alot, but still have several stag trappers from the 70's, several of our club over runs(Yellowhorse mini trappers), several toothpicks and a few other slipjoints. I wished I hadn't sold many, but at least kept many of my favorites.

I have a stong feeling traditional knives will remain my favorites this time.
I even missed the NKCA this year for the first time in many years... I won't miss it this spring!

My deepest sympathies on the loss of your Mom Ken...

Kind Regards
Steven
