Well actually 4 new ones since the little Kobra came in in record time and the horn handled YCS was in the box Uncle Bill sent.
I really wasn't figureing on getting anymore for a while, but Uncle Bill made us an offer we couldn't refuse so we now have a couple we didn't think about getting.
One looks sorta like a baby Malla and is 18" overall with a slender sorta blade that may be best described as something between a Sirupati and a WW II. Nice little khukuri with an unusual cho as
well, not the usual Malla cho. There was another one of these and I think Chris got it, maybe that's the one with the "S" shape above the butter lamp?
The other one looks as if it came right out of a Newari's shop in Kathmandu!!!!
It's more of a Dhankuta Style and has a bone handle and a fantasticaly hardened blade!!!!! It's dayumed sure Not a Newari Piece!!!!
What's really interesting about the little 12" khukuri is the scabbard.
It is made from Buffalo Horn and appears to be silver mounted, but Uncle Bill and myself finally decided it is the "white metal" that looks like silver that was used on the highly decorated scabbard, however the khukuri itself we believe to be silver mounted.
The scabbard has metal channels down each side with 3 bands around it from top to bottom. The top panel has what I believe is the Great Seal of Nepal as it has the Nepali Flag and then what appears to be a helmet with what almost looks like a horse's tail coming out of the top.
The bottom pane has a stylized dragon on it. Then inlayed around those objects there are 8 suns with 6 dots around them, 4 in the top panel and 4 in the bottom one spaced nicely in semetrical order.
Spaced in between those are 4 dots in the shape of a diamond and then at the bottom there is the standard chape.
Quite a pretty khuikuri and the one that 1st jumped out at me when I unwrapped them. There were very few left of the 28 pieces that Uncle Bill sent.
When I can I will get some pix and post them as well as the pix taken at the Khonvention. I don't know how many pix were taken as I just retrieved the camera and handed it to someone.
I recall being half blinded by the flash a couple of times and someone asked if I cared if they took my pic, something I really don't care for, but in the spirit of the time, well there was nothing else I could do.
