Hi guys!

Today arrived two new knives. I ordered them a couple of weeks ago and they are here...

The first is a Must-have for me. I always wanted the Case Stockman in Yellow Delrin handles and CV. It seems to be some kind of Basic for me. What I like on this one, at the very first view are the rounded bolsters. My Case Stockman Chestnut Brown Bone CV don´t have rounded bolsters. Feels really good in the pocket and hand. I´m looking forward to EDC that one, next one to all of the others

The next one is a Sowbelly by RR, which I also always wanted. The smooth tobacco bone handles feel nice in hand. The shape is great, extremely pocketfriendly. Unfortunatelly are the scales not fixed pretty good at the knife, so there´s a little space between the bone handles, the bolsters and the liners. That one lifts up a little. I fear, that the scales might break when the knife is dropped unhappily. The acorn shield is pretty nice :)

I also ordered a Knife Opener by RR, with nice Jigged Amber Bone. Great tool, it walked immediately in my wallet... ;)

What do you guys think about the RR knife? I don´t wanna send it back, because I really like it. Though it has a little mistake with the scales...

Kind regards
Andi

nice looking knife pick. I have mine always with me. Old remington bullet shaped pick I got from web. Sowbelly pattern is slowly getting to me. Unfortunately my economical situation is that I mostly can afford rough riders but they're fine for the price.

If a knife is a nailbreaker, I use that one to open it at the nailnick on the blade (I don´t know the name, but on slippies is a little "scratch" where you can put your thumbnail in). There I use that one, or think about using it. ;)

Kind regards
Andi

I've always been quite fond of yellow Delrin there is just something nostalgic about it to me seeing as I remember my Grandpa always having a yellow handled knife of some sort also those Rough Riders aren't half bad knives for the money and IMO seem to be of reasonable quality.

Congrats Andi!! Enjoy them both. The Case Stockman was one of the first knives I ever owned. I still have it right here next to me. Great knife and its the yellow as well. I think you are really going to love the Sowbelly. Sorry about the scales on it. Let us know how it works out.

Hi Andi!

I have an RR small trapper with a locking clip-point blade. It had a loose scale. I pried it up slightly (using the screwdriver on an Alox Vic Classic!) and put some CA superglue underneath. The scale is no longer loose and the RR small trapper is being carried and used again.

Best Regards,
Ron

Hi guys!

Thank you for your replies! The yellow handles feels really very good in hand. The handles feel really smooth, something like satine-like. Does that change while carrying and using it, I mean does it get plain? I EDCed that one today. No other knife today. It worked really nice.

Well Ron, that´s a nice idea, I didn´t already think about fixing the scale on the handle by myself. But superglue might work really well with that. Thank you, my friend.

I already own an RR Congress, which really works well and has a great fit & finish. To that prize that´s no problem, I think.

Kind regards
Andi

Andi...mine got smoother with age I think. The only thing is the sheepsfoot spring got lazy. But that is the one that always seemed to get used the most. the pen blade uses the same spring and it still has some snap.
As Ron noted; I use thin CA and put some on a razor blade ( so not to get too much as it comes out fast sometimes) and let it run off under the scale. Apply pressure to the scale until dry. Works a charm. If you have never worked with thin CA before, I want to warn you, use safety glasses and nitrile gloves. I don't want it to splash in your eye or glue you finger together. When cutting off the tip of the new bottle be sure not to squeeze bottle...at all. This has inadvertently happened to many a good man. Super glue or CA, the thick stuff, will not flow under the scale, and you don't want to lift it too much as to damage it.
I do this all the time to old knives I collect. Many have damaged scales and just need some TLC. Just work cleanly and precisely so that excess won't get on your scales.

Andi, if you want a better example of the Rough Rider, it is probably less expensive just to get another than ship it back for repair or replacement. Use the CA glue on the scale and it should hold up pretty well. You might want to use a clamp on it to hold the gap closed after the glue is wicked in. Be sure to use some waxed paper or plastic food wrap between the clamp and the scale to keep the clamp from bonding to the knife. Use the glue sparingly and be careful because I generally glue myself to my work occasionally. - Ed J

Thank you guys for the warnings and the replies!

I have already worked with PU-foam we use on the building lot to fix windows before when they are set in right-angle. A friend of mine got, once, a glue in his eye. He needed an operation to reset his eye-light. With any glue I´m pretty careful. Well, I don´t know what CA or TLC means, maybe we here in Germany have other words for this. Like for much things you call a little bit different. ;) But that´s no problem. I think, I gonna visit a modell-building-store were the sale aeroplan-models for real flights on distance-control or small ralley-cars that are also controlled by the distance. I think such a shop might have such a glue.

Well Ed J your completelly right. Sending it back and getting it after a couple weeks back also takes on some money. Buying a new one might be a little more expensive. That´s not the problem. I think I gonna fix up that one and order another RR with the next order. Though I didn´t want to buy new knives for a couple of months :D Let´s see how much I´m already infected by the virus ;)

It´s good to hear, that they get smoother during using them, thank you Gevonovich. Same knives I own, with nice sythetic scales, didn´t get smoother, they just got plain and that "satine-feeling" was gone. That happened to a Böker Plus Lockback with yellow scales, I owned once. I lost it, I think.

Kind regards
Andi

Well, I just wanted to give you a little report about, how I used some glue I bought in a shop for aeroplane- and carmodellshop. I used that one today. I lifted the bonescale a little and put in some glue. I got hard during one minute and the scales got bombproof. Now the handle is fixed. Thank you guys for your information and the replies.

Kind regards
Andi
