Two new knives -- do these sound like I got good deals?

I splurged on Ebay recently, and tonight I just Paypalled for a Spyderco Peter Herbst folder (VG-10) and a Spyderco Military (CPM-440V). Now you know why I don't have much money left over to pass around a lot of expensive holiday gifts... :p

Anyway, I paid $59.86 for the Peter Herbst incl. shipping, and $78.01 for the Military incl. shipping. The former is N.I.B. and the latter is "mint condition, with original box." (I'm eager to receive them and confirm those conditions.)

Are these good prices, average prices, great prices, horrible prices...? I'm thinking that they're probably at least $10 less per knife than I would have paid if I got them in a store somewhere, but I haven't gone scouring websites for price comparisons. Am I right, or are these just typical prices for these knives?

This Military is my first non-brand-new knife purchase! I bought it mostly because I've wanted one for a while, wanted it combo-edged, and it is claimed to be in mint condition. I have no idea why the seller was getting rid of it. Hope the description is accurate.

I think you got good deals on both of them. Why the seller got rid of the Millie is hard to say, but not every knife is for everyone, and he may have just decided it didn't fit his hand right. I bet a lot of people don't realize how big a knife it really is, but that's part of what makes it great. It cuts well and you can use it with gloves on. Enjoy them! :)

Looks to me like you got very good deals, Jeffery.

But remember, it's always wiser to get a good feel for fair-market prices BEFORE you commit/shop!

True, and that's usually what I do. Good advice. In this case, I had a sense that I had seen the Military go for over a hundred dollars new, and this guy's listing said, "Mint." I think I might have seen the Peter Herbst on a retail site somewhere but honestly don't remember how much it sold for. The guy selling the Herbst seems like a good ebay seller, from the friendly tone of his thank-you note for my prompt payment, anyway. I think it's fair of me to expect satisfaction once these knives arrive. :)

If the blades are in the condition offered my sense is that you made out like bandit:D

The Military is a great, great tac-folder and doesn't get the coverage/credit it deserves. Pure workhorse and wonderful quality of design.

Enjoy...and buy everyone else cards!
