My two latest finds...

I've always wanted to try out one of these rubber handled fillet knives. I think it's going to be ideal, thin flexy blade and nice grippy handle. The sheath is a little funky, I going to make a kydex one and turn this into a user.

Buck 123:

And here's a beauty, I think it's a 1972 or '73, 122/Nemo.

Nice knives! I love Buck old fillets! When you stated 122 and 123, I thought you meant the rubber handled fillet (123) AND the 122 wood handled fillet :D

Just another Buck mystery :D

Thanks for the pics!

wow that is one sweeeeet looking knife!
i have the 124 marked

edit inverted stamped ... i typed to soon
i think you have a 72 or 73 and i think it is the

Thanks for the comments, I was really lucky to find the 122, it fell out of ITE's trunk when I was tailing him around San Diego County....:D

postfallsidaho, "122 & 123" it was a bait and switch. The 123 fillet is a sweet knife, I look forward to putting it to use. My last "favorite" fillet knife is sitting at the bottom of Bodega Harbor. I lent it to a fishing bro' and he dropped it over the side of the dock while cleaning his catch. Oh well, it wasn't a Buck, this 123 is an upgrade.

110 Dave, I remember you mentioning you had one of these with the serrated edge. 1971 production then, good info, Thanks.

Great catch of Rock fish Mike . You going to put that 123 to use ? Snap a shot of the catch on the plate to up set us all . DM ;)

I think that 110 Dave is about 2 years off on his dating of your knife. The knife he references is a Grey-black micarta scaled Tip Down 124 Stamped Frontiersman. The 1971s and 1972s had either a Tip Down BUCK USA stamp or a tip down BUCK 122/124 USA stamp. Yours has a Tip Up 122 Stamp. The 1973s appear to be the first 122/124 series that has the Tip Up blade stamp. Additionally, your knife appears to have black micarta scales. The 1971-1972s only had the striated Grey-Black micarta scales. The next year 1973s had either the black micarta scales or the grey black scales.

I am, with the usual caveat that I am no expert, fairly certain that your Nemo is a 1973, probably early 1973 since the Nemo was discontinued in later 1973.

Tele, Thanks for the input. If this is indeed a '73, last production year, I also have the '67 white teflon spacer, first production year. Nothing in between, but still cool.

Dave, did you miss the "Tip Up" on mine? We did this before and I was hoping to avoid a rerun... sometimes the fingers are quicker than than leaky brain, bless you bro'... Mike

On May 7, 2008, you began a thread which showed that white teflon 122. My comments then were:

"The rarity of that knife can easily make it the centerpiece of even large respectable collections and is worth many hundreds of dollars. Either build a collection around that knife and keep it (it will only appreciate in value) or look for something approaching 4 figures if you sell it."

I still drool over that knife. I note that a similar 122 White Teflon spacer with box and papers recently sold for $798.91, even in a down economy. I have a white teflon spacer Nemo but it ain't no virgin.

Mike,
Very nice nemo, I have never went to a Buck filet as I had 4 Rapalas and have never used them up yet.....

I am going to watch for a white umbrella in a garage sale to send you to cut out your reflections....ha

i wont do so ...
you can only be slave to one mistress ... mine is the 110..

Dave:

If your statement had related to a 110, I would not have even considered disagreeing with it. The only 110 that I have any familiarity with is the one that was later renumbered to 103.

124s, on the other hand, are ones that I have some slightly greater knowledge about.

But that is the joy of this forum, with the collective knowledge of the various members, it is an unparalleled source for Buck knives information.

Thanks for all the input fellows.

300Bucks, Yeah, reflections. I was being lazy... :o
I'm looking forward to that PowerPoint presentation your putting together: "Photography For Knife Nuts"...:D
Mike
