So I just received two new knives today and wanted to check them out. The weather has been nasty here and the kids wanted to help out so I made it quick. I had a downed branch in the backyard from the recent snow that was perfect for a one stick fire. It was about 3" across but real long. I chopped it into three smaller pieces with the Snatchet and surprisingly it took about 1 min and 10 sec. per section. Not bad for a 2 1/2 blade! I processed into smaller pieces and started the fire. These were made by Bill Akers.
Bushbuster-1095 steel with Sycamore scales. Beefy handle which I like and nice thumb jimping in the thumb detention. Razor sharp from Bill. I only used it for some batoning, fuzz sticks, and whittling but was comfortable in all grips. Great ergos on this knife, I thought the slanted scales would be an issue but werent at all.
Snatchet-This was a surprise from Bill and a great one. I love nonconventional knives so this one was great. It chopped, batoned, made fuzz sticks, and did some notching. It has a long handle which aided in the chopping. It really will need a lanyard hole though.
Both knives are perfect for woods work and the Bushbuster is probably the best knife Ive used so far! Oh, both knives still shaved after all the work which is an indicator that Bills heat treat is spot on.
Here is a link to the knives with specs before use.
