No big news here, but just a compilation of recent thoughts ...
Just one blown-out mountain-bike inner-tube (usually available "for the asking" at many bike shops) can be carefully reborn as about two dozen ranger bands. Just need a pair a scissors and a few minutes. Three reasonable civilian uses ...
- Slide one or two onto your sheath, if you have a black synthetic sheath ... or even a bright Mora sheath. No reason not to ...
- Put two or three bands onto that big can of fresh pepper-spray that you carry in that beefy nylon holster. When/If you *ever* need that spray-can RFN, you don't want it slipping/squirting out of your wet/bloody/shaking/adrenaline-powered hands.
- Wrap one band around that little plastic 35 mm film-can that you carry ... the one with the dozen vaseline-infused cotton balls that you stretch-out-super-thin to catch a spark or match or whatever. When that little fire-starter comes to life, carefully add the rubber ranger-band. It was free. Lots more from where that came from ...
- Slip one around any Tek-Lok screw-post connection ... just to prevent "backing-out / loss" of them screw-posts ... also called "Chicago screws".
- Fast way to make a half-fast tripod ...
- A quick but imperfect way to seal/secure/water-resist yer basic Altoids tin.
- A good way to keep your Silky Gomboy 100% closed, or to replace the broken plastic latch on the carrying case ...
Feel free to chime in. I am reminded of that great old line, "When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail."
