The one with a new handle was found in an old house my dad bought from a widow. No markings, my scale puts it at about 4.5 to 5.0 pounds (without the handle).
The one with the old handle says "Collins 3-1/2", is longer but not as deep from top to bottom.
Please educate me about what the different shapes and weights imply for different uses of the two axes. What styles are they?
Also I put a 36" handle on the heavier one. Would the lighter Collins axe do well with a shorter handle?
Don't ask me, "What do you intend to do with them?" The answer is, "Chop stuff." I've got some woods with dead trees and also some stumps in the garden and I've gotten interested in chopping some wood. I'll burn the results.
Seriously, if one is better for cutting trees down and one is better for splitting I will use them that way. Just tell me what they are for. I don't intend to make my living with them, just have some fun and not cut off any toes.
Thanks
