Two questions about ESEE fateners

First question, what are they made of? The reason I ask is I sanded the black off the heads to match the raw steel look after I stripped the coating off the blade but later wanted to dark them again to match the color of the modified scales. I hit them with a Q-tip soaked in Birchwood Casey Cold Blue but it didn't change the color one bit so I figured they may be stainless. So I set them in a couple of plastic bottle caps of a Ferris Chloride solution that I acid washed my stainless blades with for ten minutes and again, they came out unchanged.

Second question, after I pulled them out and I thought I put them in a cup to wash and in my disappointment I tossed the bottle caps over the two story back deck.
After washing the female and male fasteners I found I only had one male screw. I must have tossed two screws in a bottle cap over the deck. I swear I must be getting senile.

I do plan on putting thicker liners to fatten the grip and figure I need to get longer fasteners anyway so where can I get fasteners that match the original ESEE's heads that are made of a steel that will acid stain or blue?

Thanks

I believe it is a 8-32 size screw. People have mentioned having good luck at Ace hardware and Fastenal getting screws. As far as the finish or material they are made of I'm afraid I can't be of much help.

I was just funnin' you,I would get in touch with Esee.I met the owner a couple of years ago when he had a gathering at his family farm in Alabama.First class dude who really cared about putting out a great line of knives.

I was thinking of that ^ but he made a post not long ago about not replacing fasteners for free as a courtesy because so many people were over tightening and stripping them out so I figure someone who intentionally messed with them like me sanding the black off would be SOL.
I will still contact him when I put in .062" liners to fatten the handles because I'm sure I'll need longer fasteners.

MNU is a tough paint like substance that colors Army subdued insignia black again when they start showing the metal .I dont know if they even have black metal jump wings and such anymore, probably use velcro .Also you could spray them with the new heat cured epoxy type paint that is used on firearms.
