I am having a heck of a time getting my Name stamp to come out even. I even use a magnet to hold it to the blade and then put it in a arbor press to hold it steady...:barf: I am still getting one side or the other deeper: Any suggestions?

Can't quite afford one of those $100 stamp holders.

Next: I bought a nice Wall hanger Katana and need to find someone who is better than me to wrap the handle. It is for my sons upcoming birthday at the end of the month and I would like it to look cool for him. I would like to trade a knife or some steel for some really nice Tsukamaki work if I could or I can always raid the kids piggy bank.

Your help is really appreciated guys!

Robert there's a guy names Michael Crampion who customizes and sells a lot of Paul Chen swords on eBay. He's posted here before, don't know if he's still hanging out. But you could probably find him on eBay I think his username is mscrampion or something like that. If that doesn't work try a search for Paul Chen, you'll find his sword auctions. Since he's been to this forum maybe he'd do a trade with you.

Robert - I had the same problem with a blade using an arbor press (basically Uncle Al's setup). I found that as little as .005 difference along the length of the ricasso could create the problem. I took end to end readings with a micrometer and then adjusted evened up the thickness with some masking tape. While holding the arbor down, I give it one good hit with a 32 oz hammer.

I first tested this on scrap knives, etc. to get a feel for it. You should probably use brass shims instead of masking tape, but be careful as metal can leave marks or indentations from the hammer strike .BTW, you can make Uncle Al's unit by buying the same arbor press MSC sells for $26.50. Mill a slot to accept your stamp, and then tap a hole in the side to accept a bolt that will hold the stamp in place. Your looking at about 15-30 minutes work.

No suggestions from me, but I am watching for the help you get.

I had a stamp made and bought the press with it- and am still having problems getting the stamped impression [Evans] an even depth. Either the 'E' is too deep or the 's' is too deep. I think I need to make a fine tune adjuster of some kind.

I am going to try making sure the ricasso is dead even under the press- hope that works!
