...then instead, drank microbrewed soda in the woods.

And of course, we did some much needed chopping!

Make sure you leave those Rats in the log before you go drain the soda! :D

My wife fell while @ the zoo yesterday, and hurt herself and our 3 year old daughter pretty bad. If they are getting around okay by then, I've got the green light.

Wow, MMisM. I hope it isn't too serious and they will be doing better soon. I've got a 1.5 yr son and a 4 yr daughter; you're post makes me cringe.

Good luck!

Thanks, my wife's ankle is sprained and swollen about twice the original size, my daughter is pretty scraped up on hands, arms and legs. I'm just glad it wasn't worse and our new son wasn't with them. Fotunately my two older daughters are here to help. It's always scary thinking about our loved ones getting injured. But, you know, we made it through childhood without too much damage. Besides, my wife thinks my scars and limp are sexy! :D :D :D

MOB,

I hope your family is doing better...and not just in a "can MOB come out and play?" kind of way.

Though, there is some of that. ;)

Thanks, they're sore but safe. ;)

Is that Knife a Ratwiler? Could you comment on the handle comfort/design while being used?

Hi Lukers,

The handle on the Ratweiler is very comfortable, in several different grip positions. Though, this RW is particularly super comfortable. ;) This one originally had micarta which was shaped very different from the standard production and I needed to make some modifications to shape it better to my hand.

The first time that I used a ratweiler, though, it taught me an important lesson...this type of handle doesn't absorb shock at all. While batoning through a particularly difficult branch, I loosened my grip on the knife and continued to baton it through. One strike sent a vibration that hit the inside of a knuckle on one of my fingers causing pretty significant pain for about three days. Anymore, I wear leather gloves when I use this knife and have not had any problems since.

Once I learned to respect the business-like nature of this style of handle, we've gotten along very well. And I wouldn't have it any other way. ;)

Hope this helps some. Obviously the best bet is to have a friend in the are that owns one so that you can try it out.
