I started two similar shapes and took different approaches, both razors are 1095 the white is micarta the black is G10. It was fun to see the contrast between them. It is my Jekyll and Hyde razors.

Oh man, those are cool. Nice work matching the rough finish & hamon to the black micarta and the shiny finish to the white one.

Hey Charlie, Once again a home run. I like the curve you put into them. They look great. And a hamon too.

Nice work as usual Charlie. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think I've ever seen you make a razor with a sway/smile. What are the pros and cons of shaving with a razor with a smile in the blade? Just curious since I am just now getting used to shaving with a straight. And let me add that you were correct. Now that I'm used to it I'll never go back to disposable razors. Thanks for converting me.

Charlie your work fascinates me! LOVE those razors! Ive been reading up a lot more on them and the different grinds. Didnt realize the grinds were that complicated. Thought it was just a simple hollow ground but looks like a lot of people even use multiple wheels ont he same blade to get what they like.

I have made some razors with a smile, I like smiling blades. Realistically there are not a lot of pros to a smiling blade. I like to shave with a smiling blade, smiling blades look cool, they are more fun to hone. It does take a bit of movement with the razor on the honing stroke to hone the blade but that is part of the fun to me.

I am glad the straight is working out for you.

Some of the grinds that I do are not single radius grinds. Sometimes I will make several troughs/grooves then blend them together. The only way I can get a real thin blade is use a series of wheels. A bigger wheel by the edge, a medium wheel to hollow out the belly, then a small wheel to hollow out underneath the spine. Other times I will make a single radius grind where the hollow matches the wheel diameter, that is what these two razors are I ground them on a 6" wheel. I had a hard enough time with the curved blade I did not want to make it any more complicated.

I have always been very fascinated by Jeckyll and Hyde, and this is just so very cool for me to see. I'm in love with this razor. I was telling some friends not long ago about the dynamic of that/those characters. How both of them are equally heroic, dangerous, admirable, pathetic, and disgusting. I think this razor is equally beautiful and admirable on both sides.
