Two recent acquisitions with ties to my youth

Within the last week I acquired two older knives that I really enjoy. The Case 6232 jack is from 1978, which is the year I obtained my driver's license (a rite of passage for 20th century American teenage boys). The Böker Tree Brand barlow is likely from the early 1960s, which is when I was born. Even without the date significance (or if it proves not to be true for the Böker) I like these two and am quite pleased to have them.

In this picture you can barely make out a hint of green streak in the bone between the front pin and the bolster.

That 493 is a real beauty and theres the recurve in the main blade that i see in so many of them if i didnt know better i say thats the way there supposed to be a lot of sharpening a real working mans knife for sure . Rich

Love them both, but I'm liking the Boker a bit more. I have my Papaws well loved Boker, and it instantly takes me back every time I hold it.

Very good knives indeed, both pleasing to look at and, I'll be bound they're good in the hand too. Böker does a very decent Barlow, solid and well-made.

Thanks, Will

Thanks for the kind comments. You are right Will, both are very good in the hand. Solid, substantial feeling, and as Rich said, working man's knives. Glad to have them.

I have a Schrade Walden that belonged to my grandfather briefly before he passed (my avatar picture), and a Camillus that reminds me of one he used as a younger man. I treasure them both.

Doug, the bone on the 32 is beautiful . . . what does the flip side look like? Much darker I'm guessing.

the green bone came about because of some weird reaction between the bone and the dye? is this correct
pretty cool

I hope you don't want an answer from me! I'm a novice with regard to old Case knives, just know what I like.

Oddly enough, I have not been able to recreate that green streak in any other photo. May have been just the way the sun caught it at that moment.
