The knife with the cocobola handle is one I posted earlier but thought I'd get a better picture of it along with the new one I finished yesterday that is made from regular saw steel. Both knives are around 8" overall. The newer one has an osage orange handle that I dyed to bring out the grain more and then I sanded it to 600 grit and then buffed it. The piece of rusty steel in the picture is the shear steel that I've been using for awhile. As usual the fitting on both are wrought iron.

I'm going to miss the shear when its gone Ray. I e-mailed a steel company in England the other day and they laughed at me.

Mark, exactly what machines are your shear blades from? Maybe some us old scroungers may run across some of the shear blades. Edited to add, we will be just as sorry to see you run out of your favorite steel. You really do the steel justice, Mark.

Those are Rays blades John, I would be proud to claim them if they were mine though :)

The shear steel was used for sawblades and many othner cutting implements. i guess about the only way to be sure is either something made from it will be plainly marked as shear steel or harden and etch to see the pattern.

Two knives that do not drop point that I really like for hunting/fishing. The wood work is outstanding.

John, You got me way confussed! All the knives that I've made out of the shear steel came from one really old saw blade. I'm not sure what else besides knives where made out of the shear steel. I've got enough shear left for a few more blades.

Bruce, the handles really are comfortable plus they work real well with a number of different style blades that I'm doing. Hope to have a couple fighters done tomorrow with the same type handle.
