Last week, Angry Waiter Angry Waiter / Pete reached out and asked for my address because he had something he wanted to send my way.

Today, a package from Pete showed up in my mailbox. Surprisingly, it contained one of my favorite knives — a Farm & Field Tool Nifebrite #71 Bull Nose. Now if you know me, you’ll know that I’ve had one of these for several years, and have posted about it often, particularly on my oldest daughter Eleanor’s birthday every year. It’s the knife I had in my pocket the day she was born, and I carry it on her birthday and other special occasions, and it means an awful lot to me.

Part of my plan has always been to give that knife to Eleanor at some point. I don’t really have an idea about when — it won’t be her first knife or anything, maybe I’ll give it to her when she turns 18, I don’t know. But there has always been this thought in the back of my mind that whenever I do give it to her, I’m going to a be a little sad. Sure, I’ll be sad because the knife has a lot of sentimental value and memories associated with it and all that. But I’ll also be sad because Nifebrite is one of my favorite handle materials that GEC uses (or used to use; they don’t seem to much anymore), and the #71 is one of my favorite GEC patterns, and when I give that knife to her, well, then I won’t have a Nifebrite #71 Bull Nose anymore. 😉

Now I know that Pete couldn’t have known that I had all that going on in my mind with regards to a glow-in-the-dark-handled Sodbuster. I have made my affinity for both Nifebrite and the Bull Nose known here on the forum, and maybe that was enough for Pete to deduce that a second Nifebrite #71 was something I’d like to have. Or maybe he just has some sort of fellow-knife-enthusiast sixth sense. Whatever the case may be, I was incredibly surprised when I pulled that knife out of the box, and I’m beyond thrilled with it. I’m looking forward to carrying and using it on all sorts of normal days that aren’t Eleanor’s birthday or first day of school or whatever. Thank you again, Pete! What a fantastic gift!:thumbsup:

Alright, now that I’m done talking, let’s see the knife. Pete included a Don’t Mess With Texas sticker along with it. (As a token of my appreciation, I promise not to mess with Texas — unless college athletics are involved.) 😉

Barrett, this post just makes me very happy and I am glad you will be able to use this knife to its potential. And that you have a backup for that special occasion when you can give your daughter her knife!

Also, thank you to all of you who have taken me in over the past few years here on the Porch. It’s an incredible place filled with incredible people and I feel fortunate to be here.

Pete
