Two very different Zero Tolerance 0770CF samples

I was surprised how different these knives are:

  • Glossy clip (with off center logo) vs a matte distressed one
  • Italic blade font vs non-italic
  • Different carbon fiber pattern and finish
  • Less "scalloped" pivot
  • The left knife's ZT logo on the blade looks like it was done with a blocky stamp like the clip, and like a screened print on the other (consistent with my other ZT blades).

Every pic I've found online shows a glossy clip, italic lettering on the blade (like all my other ZTs), and deeper scalloped pivot. At first I thought maybe the one on the right was a fake, but the action is so much better than the one on the left (not smooth at all) I just don't know. I guess its likely they simply changed the way they do things because the serial numbers are several thousand apart. Can anyone else confirm that they have a sample like the one on the right?

I just grabbed our display model and I hate to say it really looks more like the one on the left but the logo is dead centered. I have seen both blackwash type clips and regular black on plenty of their knives.

Mine was the M390 version. Interesting it didn't say "Made IN USA" on the blade. Just USA

But pivot style and carbon finish is the same as the one on the right.

Mine looks like the one on the left except it has a centered clip logo.
Yes. Mine too. Blade markings like on the left and more centered logo on clip like the knife on the right.
What seems strange that the flippers in the op pictures appear to have no jimping at all. Mine seems very prominent.

My torsion bar also rattles when the blade is locked. Is that normal?

Mine is exactly like the left sample in the picture.

There is pretty sharp jimping on the flipper tabs of both, and larger jimping on the thumb ramps. No rattle in either.

Thank you for confirming the pivot and CF in a pic! Makes me feel more confident that its real. Still haven't seen non-italic lettering though...

Thanks. It's 100percent functional and only rattles when blade is deployed more than 90 degrees out of its handle.
Strange. Maybe I'll just send it in or bend that bar a little bit here and there to see what happens.

you are welcome. Let me know if you want to see a few more pictures - I think I have a few more I can share.

Some time last year (or maybe the year before?), I think they changed styles or suppliers (or both?) for the CF. The older style was a bit more reflective when it caught light the right way, and the newer one has a more consistent weave pattern. My 0770CF has the older style, and my 0770CFM4 has the newer one.

Torsion bar rattle is either a broken t-bar (but you wouldn't have any assisted action at all) Or you need to re grease the t-bar cavity with a high temp grease.

Thank you. That's an easy fix.
If the grease works doesn't that mean that the bar is supposed to be lose and the grease will just make it stick and prevent it from moving too much and making too much noise?

Mine looks more like the one on the right. I prefer the CF weave on that one.

GREAT pics, thank you! Love the M4.

Torsion bar rattle is pretty common with KAI blades, though less so with ZT than Kershaw. Like others have suggested, once the spring has "sprung" and there's no tension anymore, the only things holding it in place are the dimensions of its cavity (which needs to be able to contain it when under tension) and the heavy grease inside. It's truly not a problem, though I agree it can be annoying, so some more goo in there will prevent it moving.
