I can't see these two causing much of a sensation on here, but I thought I'd post them anyway.;):D

First is a Loveless style utility. 4 1/2" blade of 1095, Macassar ebony handle with dark red liners. Fittings as you can see are that awful brass stuff.:D

Second is one I've made for someone's birthday. The inlay on the handle will be engraved with their DOB once I've finished it.
Blade is 3 3/4" 1095, overall length 8". Handle is Macassar ebony and once again the fittings have no class.:D

Thanks for taking time to look.

For me, it matters less about what the fittings are made of, and more about how well they are executed and finished.

I like your knives, and these knives. They ARE well done.

Hi Ian -

Those are spectacular!

Being a Buck fan, I can't get enough brass and ebony.

Very beautiful knives - thank you for posting.

best regards -

I love the Loveless utility! (no pun intended) I'd carry one right away if I could get a sheath with a pocket clip.

I like it - kinda retro looking.
I have a couple of Lile's that have brass fittings - they were very popular back in the day.
Besides, that's what custom knives are all about - making what the customer wants.

Thanks for all your comments.

I've got to admit that I actually prefer stainless fittings nowadays, but most orders from the UK seem to prefer brass, especially knives for 'non knife people'....by that I mean people who like them and want one, but aren't as obssessed as we are! I think the main reason is that brass adds a bit more colour.

I'm always a bit wary of posting knives with brass fittings on here as I've been slated for using it in the past...although as some of you will know, I'm not too bothered about all that!

What does bother me is my quite frankly useless photography. The utility has one of the most beautiful pieces of highly figured Macassar that I've ever used....shame you can't actually see it....or the liners for that matter!:(

The two things that really annoy me about knifemaking are 1)You need to be a bloody photographer and 2) Coop doesn't live in the UK!!:D

Still, apart from that I'm having fun, and for me, that's what it's all about.

you're right. What's not to hate? Flowing lines, excellent fitment, a fine finish...truly disgusting. I think from now on I'll put you on 'ignore'. It's enough to make one vomit in one's hat.

Hi Ian,

I wouldn't expect a Wolfe Loerchner folder that he turned on a lathe. I would't expect a Michael Walker slipjoint. I wouldn't expect a Larry Fuegen fixed blade without his sheath. I wouldn't expect Edmund Davidson to make a stick tang knife.

I wouldn't expect Ian Bailey not to use brass.

That's just how it is. You have earned your right. :D

Coop

Yeah, too bad about that awful brass stuff. You might as well just send them both to me for proper disposal...:D

I'll echo what David just said....that's one of the best comments I've ever read on here.

Thank you very much.
