I posted some pics of my last bowie up here long ago and im trying to get a freind of mine to make a sheath.

Its a big sob at about 18 inches overall, so i was wondering if yall had any experience carrying a large knife like this.

im planning on either carrying this at the 4 o'clock or 10 o'clock position at about a 45 degree angle.

i think the in the belt style would look best and complement the design of the knife the most, but i dont know how well that actually works for carrying it around for a while.

any info or insight would be much appreciated.

What I do on big bowies is make a blade cover sheath. It does not have any upper section to attach to the belt, and stops at the guard. A strap that goes over one lug of the guard is the keeper. This way the sheath can be shoved under the belt, laced to a pack strap, or for suspended warring - you can make a hanger called a frog. Here is a photo of one type for illustration http://www.museumreplicas.com/p-141-leather-sword-hanger-frog.aspx
The blade cover straps in the frog. You can make the frog to hang the knife any angle or direction you wish.
