Looking to make a few throwers for myself (stock removal). Was wondering if there was any 'best' type of steel and what hardness is most typical?

5160 or 1050 would make a great thrower. I harden mine somewhere between RC 44-46 for best performance. Hope this helps.

Thanks that does help. I'll order up some steel today.
I had a look at your website and I'm not sure I could have picked a better person to answer those questions.

As a teenager, some 25 years ago, I recall throwing knives with my father. An activity we both enjoyed together when we didn't have that many mutually agreeable activities or like opinions on anything for that matter. I thought it would be fun to make some throwers and pass the 'tradition' on to my kids.

Good Luck
