I was hoping to draw upon the tremendous wealth of knowledge here in the forums in answering this question of mine.

I am looking at the "Hunters Pal", the specs in the cataloque I've seen it in merely say "stainless steel" and I'm really curious about the type of steel in this knife and/or the quality their stainless steel. This is one fine looking little fixedblade with sambar stag handle and a flat ground 4" blade.

It's shape and size really sings to me, but I have no experience with these knives at all.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Call the US Distributor and ask 'em for the German Material number of the Steel. (Werkstoff Nummer). For a stainless steel it will be 1.4???, Then email me or post that number here and I'll look it up in my book and tell you the US number and composition. I doubt very much if it's 440c. Probobly more like 440b, but who knows.

I have been told that PUMA uses 1.4110, which is the German nomenclature for what we call 440A. The info I have for PUMA's 1.4110 is as follows:
.48-.6%c
1% Si
1% Mn
13-15% Cr
.5-.8% Mo
.15% v

From a subjective standpoint, I have been satisfied with the fit, finish, feel, design and quality of my Puma knives - for their price. I have no experience with their customer service and have not really "abused" them as I only use them for hunting.

The Puma's my buddy sells both fixed and folding are clearly marked 440C.

Strider: Going through an e-mail situation right now. Pls post the info. I would be happy to pick up a Puma or two with the 440C as I have been told that they are of 440A; though I still think they are great knives and a good value.

He only has e-mail but you don't. I'll let him know and if he wants he can post on the for sale forum. Also check E-Bay as there are many Puma's listed there.
