Type of steel?

Did Busse always use A-2 steel in the older blades, or was there a time when D-2 steel was used, or am I just making things up in my brain? I've got an old birds beak Steelheart in good condition and would like to remeber what it is made of. I also have an old 5/16 Mean Street from the same time period that has been a constant companion.

D2 was used in prototypes as were many other steels a trend which follows to this day, I an not sure if there ever was a full run of D2 blades made.

dcfireman, Welcome to the Busse forum.

A2, D2, ATS34, modified Infi and Infi have all been used at one point.

Hopefully some one will come along and post some examples for US.

(maybe the Infi Hogs known as Raden and progunner)

DCFireman,
Welcome to the Busse forum, glad you stopped by. :D:D

I know that D2 has been used, not sure exactly when but I know some of the older pieces are D2.

Then it went ATS34, A2, and INFI(Mod-INFI).

One of the SH guru's can maybe identify what your SH is, I'd guess ATS-34 or A2.

Also a guess but my money is on A2 for the MS also. :D:D

I hope you stick around and join in our discussions :D:D

It sounds like they are both A-2. Thanks for stopping by.

How long have you had these blades and how have they worked out for you? Come on man. . . details! Give 'em up!!!! :)

Welcome aboard!

Jerry

I've had both of these knives since late 1995. I joined the Army shortly after getting them and was in an airborne unit as an infantryman. The SH was a little to heavy to carry around on extended field ops, so the Mean Street was always on my LBE and was constantly being put to use in both field and garrison. I've since gotten out of the Army, and as my screen name shows, I am a fireman in Washington DC. I carry my MS with me in my coat pocket and it has pried more windows and cut more drywall, carpet, and electrical cords than one knife has a right to. My newest aquisition, an Assault Shaker, has also been pressed into heavy service both at work and at home, and is my current EDC knife until a folder comes along :)

dcfireman, welcome to our little home away from the world :) Good knives mentioned. just a quick request. If my building ever catches fire....after getting everyone out, please let it burn to the ground :D

dcfireman, welcome to the Busse forum! Sounds like you've been a member of the Busse family for quite a while. I'm not surprised those blades have served you well over the years. That's certainly par for the course with Busse knives. Gotta love the 5/16 blades! I've got a 5/16 sh-ba and would love to pick up a 5/16 SH some day.

BTW I used to live in Montgomery CO. 15yrs ago before moving west, I hear the Greaseman is back on the air!!!:D He is hysterical! He was HUGE in DC area when I was there. I still have tapes I made back then that I listen to occassionally, still funny stuff.

Thank you all for a very warm welcome, and yes I have been a member of the Busse family for a while, I just didn't find the rest of my family until recently;) .

Hey! Sorry nothing but INFI and M-INFI in my Busse collection. I have never even held a straight handle model, let alone anything in A2. :( If you have something in that area you want to donate to my collection, go right ahead Chuck. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

dcfireman,
A belated welcome to the forum. Hope you hang around and
join in on the family fun.:)

Andrew,

AFAIK?. . . It took me 2 hours to figure out what that meant. . . I thought it was a new knife model or something! ;) LOL

dcfireman,

Thanks for the background. I think you and I spoke about 3 weeks ago. . .Uh, don't you owe me a beer?

Stealth Mode on: (Shhh. . . don't tell him the part about how all the newbies are made to believe that they owe me a beer! ;) ) Stealth Mode off!

Yours in nuclear thirst,

Jerry
