I have ordered an AR through TAD and assumed that it would be S30V. Recently I have noticed that some models are BG-42, also a great steel for hard use.

Is one an "early" type and the other a "later" type? Are both steels offered concurrently?

Truth be told, I don't care which type is sent to me. I realize that a product's design may change over time. I will be a new Strider customer and I would like some info.

Yes, the BG42 is made for cutting up Big cars, while the S30V is made for cutting up Smaller cars. Hope this clears up any confusion you may have had! ;)

Boy...tough crowd!....uh.....ok....I'll stop now...

Ichabod,
*But seriously, folks*
Yes, the AR/GB folders were originally produced with BG-42 blades, and now are available in S30V. I'll be surprised if BG-42 continues to be offered as a standard production blade steel option (insofar as S30V appears to have it beat in most performance categories), but either way, I'm confident that you'll be thrilled with your folder. Enjoy. :)

Ichabod, when you ordered your AR through TAD, when did they say they might get it in? I called them last week & they told me 2-6 weeks...

Thanks guys for your replies.

L.O. Little, that's about what they told me. I had a few E-mails going back and forth between myself and Josh and I believe there is a waiting list. I chose not to take any chances and I called Friday and gave them my credit card and delivery info. I have done business with TAD before and they are a first rate outfit and I had no quams about giving them info when I knew they had no product. Of course, this is probably not my last purchase from TAD and I wanted them to know that I support them.

One thing I've learned about 'Strider folk' is that when they speak it's a bond. I want to be part of this so I have to make sure MY image is clean, as well. I'm eager for my delivery.

"I have done business with TAD before and they are a first rate outfit" Ichabod, I agree. I've dealt with them a few times & been impressed with their service.

"One thing I've learned about 'Strider folk' is that when they speak it's a bond." That does seem to be the case.

All current folder blades are S30V.
Even though the last batch was stamped BG42.
We're so lame sometimes.

Shame on you, Mick! Have you no scruples???

Allright, I'll forgive you, and I'll even help out: Send me one of those useless, mislabeled folders (at no cost to me, of course! :D ) and I'll forget about this incident.

Hell, I might even be tempted to buy ANOTHER Strider and take my chances with the steel! :D Just as long as I don't get one made out of 440 or silly putty or anything... :p

P.S.: Do you Strider men offer bankruptcy counseling or anything? ;)
