could someone explain the different types of grinds on knife blades. i read about hollow, chisel, wedge, split what do these mean?

A hollow grind has a hollow or concave edge.It gets that becasue you grind it on a round contact wheel instead of a flat platen. The bevel actually has a curve to it. If you hold a ruler against the knife so that it touches the top of the grind and the cutting edge, there will be a spot in between where the ruler doesn't touch the knife.
A chisel grind only has one bevel. One side is flat, side of the blade and the spine should come together at about a 90 degree angle. The other side is beveled to the cutting edge.
sorry but I've never heard of a wedge grind or a split grind.
