Hey everyone,

I was wondering which spyderco knife has your favorite serration pattern on it? As of now I am not a big fan of serrations, but I think that is partly because I have not given them a chance. I own only one serrated knife, a SE Pacific Salt, and I feel that the serrations are pretty coarse. I am a huge fan of Spyderco so I want to give their serrations a chance.

Until a few days ago I thought that all spyderedges were the same until I read a thread where someone mentioned that Seki serrations, and Golden serrations are different. I looked at some pics online and sure enough, they were correct. So basically I want to know about the different types of spyderedge and what are your preferences. I attempted to do a search through google regarding this topic but I wasn't successful, please lead me to a thread if there already is one.

Thanks

IMO the shallower the serrations the less the blade gets hung up when cutting something. The ATR for instance has some deep serrations and it got caught up in what it was cutting often enough for me to not carry it anymore.

The shallow serrations as on the Endura with the Emerson opener(hook)

are the best all around blade for all types of cutting IMO.

I'm kind of on line with Tony when it comes to what he calls "Shallow Serrations". But first let me clear the air before I get my favorite SE pattern posted. Personally I think everyone of Spyderco's serration patterns are super high quality and well thought out designs that unfortunately few people even try to understand.

But my all time favorite Spyderedged blade is my older full SE Catcherman model. It has a low profile, shallow serration that I assume is what Tony is also speaking of. I do apologize that I don't at this time have any way of putting up pictures. But I'm sure if you GOOGLE the Spyderco Catcherman model there are plenty of pics already out there to view.

But my older AUS-8 Catcherman model with the full Spyderedge has the least resistance cutting anything that I've ever used. I use that knife for so many things that I just hope I can find myself at least 2 more of that model ( used would be fine :)) because mine is definitely in my survival-bugout bag to be sure.

Few people realize that there is a profound difference between the Golden CO serrations and the Seki City versions. Also there are isolated cases of completely different patterns all together such as the ones on the older C-27 Jess Horn model. But the older Catcherman SE model is so far my all time FAVORITE Spyderedge.
