#1 - yes 1074/1075.....#2 - NOT D2, closest to A2 . This of course may be a foreign steel with different specs .Should make a fine knife steel like A2 does !!

Not to hi-jack the topic but where can i send some steel to have analyzed? is it expensive/worth it??

I agree with mete - the first is kinda like 1075, the second one close to A2.

You have to remember that each and every manufacturer will present a somewhat different chemical composition for their steels even if marketed by the same well-known name, eg.- 1075 or A2, or O1 or D2 etc. etc. My understanding is that within the industry, a certain amount of error range is aceptable for the percentages of the individual chemicals. In addition the company doesn't necessarily have to declare some chemicals that they don't want to. Thats why some steels have their eg.- manganese or silicon content listed and others don't.

Thats what I was told. Please jump in if this is incorrect. Jason.
