Typical wait times for a Busse knife

Hello, I am new to the forum and only own a couple of "nice" knives (a Benchmade, an Emerson, and I have a Reeve on the way.)

They are all folders. I was reading a lot of reviews and the Busse knives seem to be some of the overall toughest knives around.

I was curious if anyone knew the apx. wait times for the Tank Buster before I get my heart set on one? Is it weeks, months or years? I could call them but before clogging the phone lines I though I'd check here and see if anyone just happened to know.

Thanks for the assistance.

Two weeks ;)

Seriously, it will be on the order of weeks, maybe a few months at most. It won't be years.

Welcome to the Busse Forum!

Now, run away before you blow out your credit card!

:D:D

Unfortunately, we do not have a good answer for you. As far as we know, the shop is busy working on existing orders, and the complexity of all the options has slowed things down and no knives have yet shipped. My guess is an order now would not be filled for weeks after they finally start shipping.

Fear not, we can help with your pending addiction. There may soon be other versions of the SAR-8 offered at the Busse Combat Company Store.

http://www.bussecompanystore.com/

That site is an independent retailer run by BF member idahoskunk. When a knife is listed there on the order page, it is available for immediate shipping. So watch that space, and this forum, as the knives there tend to be made in limited numbers, and when they're gone, they're gone.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye on the Company Store and snag something when it becomes available. Unfortunately, I am one of those pesky impatient people (at least I'll admit it) who's hesitant to buy something without knowing when he'll get it ... but then again there is a first time for everything.

You can always buy off the exchange. Lots of variety and you'll get it quicker. :D

I assume these would typically be used knives? Any concerns with buying a used knife?

The only concern is that you might pay more than the knife originally sold for.

The Busse warranty is lifetime of the knife, not the owner - no matter where you get your Busse, you will be covered by Jerry's generous warranty.

Busse's also tend to hold their value quite well, which is why many used knives will sell more than original retail - almost all models, by their very nature, are discontinued.

And one more thing - many Busse collectors keep knives in safes and never touch them again, so a "used" knife might very well not be used at all. That also means you'll pay more for the collector value of that knife, so if you're planning to use it yourself, that can be a turnoff.

Most the knives on the forum are new, to sell you have to be a gold member, which means your most likely a Busse fan, its a pretty bunch of stand up people, i've bought dozens off here and always been happy, good luck and happy hunting, Dick alias Grey Menace.

Not if you plan to use it and know how to sharpen a knife.

Right now is a great time to be shopping for Busse knives. Selection is at an all time high, and prices have fallen for most recent models from the inflated prices of a year ago. Prices are still crazy high for some certain older models. But if you are patient, and educate yourself on what the original price was, you have a good chance of picking stuff up at near cost.

For example, there is a SAR-8 LE on the Busse for Sale forum right now that, when you take into account the original price of 597 + shipping to him at 15 plus shipping/insurance and PP to you; the seller is making no profit.

You can also look into the Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard lines, lower prices but still the same absolutely bulletproof warranty and customer service.

It may be 6-8 weeks wait time for a Tank Buster, but the best always takes time. It will be worth it.

I find Scrap Yard and Swamp Rat to be an excellent gateway drug to the Busse world. My first Bussekin was a second hand Mini Uncle Mojo, which I'm actually now trying to sell, because I decided I had too many knives in that size.

The great thing about these knives is, even if you use them, you probably won't lose much money if you decide not to keep 'em.

Wow, thanks for all the info. I am stunned to have received so much feedback so quickly - it's very helpful.

I'm going to comb the Exchange and see what available over the next week or two and try and snag one up.

We try to be nice to noobs. :D

Tell us what kind of knife you want, or what role you expect it to fill, and we can help with more specific suggestions of which model to look for.

Also check out Bad Mojo and Busse Collector for pics and dimensions.

Use? Honestly I don't have a real need for a knife like this, my folders do just fine for most cuttings tasks I encounter. But I like and appreciate quality items, and if the world ever does end it wouldn't hurt to have a good knife with you. :)

In all seriousness, this is my first fixed blade. I don't want a "sword-like" Busse (for now :)) with the 8 or 9 inch blades, and I liked some pics of the Badger Attack with the 5 inch blade - it seemed to fit a spec ops combat master sheath which could (possibly) attach to MOLLE points on my ATS chest rig is so desired.

If you like the badger attack, you should seriously consider ordering the current offering (the tank buster). You'll have to wait a while, but you will get it at company store cost, and it's a similar beefy burly knife.

I'm glad someone else asked this question, I've been playing around with the idea of a tank buster the last few days, but that lingering, nagging, bothering thought of "how long?" did keep me from committing... which doesn't really make all that much sense, as I really like waiting for things in the mail, so long as they're not holding up a project or anything. I'm crazy, I know. I'm just trying to get my hands on my first Busse / bussekin knife soon. Trouble is, I like almost every one I've seen so far!
