Hi All, I have a problem inserting equations into Microsoft Word. Before you start in on me, I have to use Word, and my main employer is too cheap to buy a proper equation editing package. So I am stuck, unless I have my laptop with me, with the facilities in Word itself. The latest version of Word has Microsoft's own equation software, which is clumsy, awkward and a PITA. Even worse, the print quality is terrible. So I would like to use the old Equation Editor, but I can't find it in the latest version of Word. Have they dropped it altogether, or can I add it in somehow? Does anyone know?

But it has to be done at work, where I don't have access to good equation writing software in the first place.

Which version of Word are you using?
Thank the good Lord, my Fortune 500 company still has us using Office 2003. Most of us are dreading moving on to one of the "ribbon" versions.

To misquote Lily Tomlin in her character of "Ernestine" on Laugh-In, "We're Microsoft. We don't care because we don't have to." (She was talking about Bell Telephone.)

I'm not in front of my computer right now, I'm on my phone, but I think that the Equation editor is under the Insert tab on the far right side.

Are you talking about Word 2010? I find its equation editor fairly easy to use and the equations print just the same quality as regular text for me. It is a little different than the old one, just like a lot of the Windows 7 flavor of things. Takes a little getting used to but then things are fine. (In case we are talking about two different things, this is the equation editor you get to from the Insert tab and has the big blue "pi" on the button.)

Here's a screen shot (using the Windows 7 snip tool - a very handy thing!) of a simple equation I made easily (click on it to see the full size version):
